Why? Why in God's name do people like this band? I ask genuinely. I seriously do not get it

What kind of response would genuinely satisfy your question? Not sure what you want people to say.

Stylistically, let's say. What draws you in ? What do you find leaves a sense of staying power when thinking of this band? Guilty pleasure?

Dramatic & grandiose storytelling in their songs. Great concepts for albums (The Black Parade, Danger Days). Stage presence & live energy. Fantastic music videos. Relatable lyrics, especially to those dealing with depression. The band members are relatively unproblematic compared to a lot of their counterparts in the scene. Oh yeah, and the scene which they had a huge hand in pushing into the mainstream.

They just wrote some very solid rock songs. Famous Last Words is one of the best-written, straight-forward rock songs I know. Gerard has a very unique voice, great stage presence, and Ray is an incredible guitarist who plays super cool and technical riffs. They put on a hell of a show. They've changed stylistically so often that they have a song that fits most people's tastes. Idk, plenty of reasons.

There's also something to be said for their story telling ability over concept albums and touring. That takes talent to pull off effectively

I know plenty of people that don't like the band, but I've never heard of anyone questioning why people do. I always thought their appeal is pretty self-evident.

See, perfect answer. I was asking to find out what I should look for next time I see em around tv or something so I get the appeal. I promise for once in my life I want being a pric lol Thank you

The fact the Brian May of Queen played a Queen song and WTTBP with them just goes to show that this band really is this generations Queen.

I was actually having this kind of conversation a couple weeks ago with friends. For whatever reason, I always compare them to the Smiths*. I think the bands have some (albeit superficial) similarities, and the reverence for MCR now reminds me a lot of how the Smiths were looked at about ten years ago.

    *Obligatory "Fuck Morrissey."
