I love it. It's almost got a darker, denser tone than my other Explorer.

Haha it's Bill Kelliher from Mastodon's signature Explorer. He released a signature Les Paul too at one point called the Halcyon, so Golden Axe is just what this one is "named". I remember an interview where he said he named it after the old arcade game of the same name haha.

The pickups are Lace Sensor Nitro-Hemis, so they're passive but they're not your usual pole piece humbuckers.

Word. One thing I really like about it is the universal volume knob. The toggle switch being moved from the "wing" to the knobs still throws me off a little but overall I think it's a cool little variation on the usual Explorer setup.

    Project Update:

Clear coated, sanded, and hand polished. Worked on polishing for 4 freakin hours last night. I may polish a little more, but It's all turning out pretty well for using cheap spray cans. Definitely not perfect, but I got ambitious trying to get close to a "factory finish" using two different colors of cheap spray cans and adding a race stripe. Most of my money went towards the clear coat and sandpaper. Worth it, but crazy to think about lol. All in all, the paint job total cost me about $55 in supplies I needed. Ton's of work and literally waiting for paint to dry, but its worth it and it's been a blast seeing a vision come to life.

    Two Rustoleum 2X Spray Cans - $10
One Spraymax 2K Clear Glamour Spray Can- $24
    Wet/Dry Sandpaper Set- $10
Mcguier's Clear Coat Safe Compound Polish - $9

My two Tom DeLonge strats are coming along. Waiting on Tuners, a pickup, and few small parts before I put them together and set them up.

The tan strat has a Duncan Custom Custom pickup and I will be wiring a push/push coil split pot in it for fun.

The burgundy mist is a custom paint job from Warmoth. Looks REAL nice. The burgundy strat is basically be a reboot of TD's signature strat, but with a few updated parts. I went into the project thinking....okay, if Fender made a USA rebooted version of Tom's strat....what would be cool to change? I decided on new color option, american/modern hardtail bridge, locking tuners, and volume pot with a treble bleed. A different color and subtly updated parts keep things classic, yet interesting. What's crazy about this build is all the parts will cost just as much as an 18 year old/used Made in Mexico Tom Strat costs these days. Even the beat up ones.

The warmoth build sounds kind of expensive. How much are those Mexi TD guitars going for these days for it to work out cheaper?

Were you tempted to do a maple board on one of them?

Got a pickup choice for the burgundy one?

sighhhh I’m about to build a telecaster. I found some guys that cnc super light bodies for a really fair price.

but I’m going to try and do it super cheap. I’m gonna have to paint and finish it too. think I’m gonna try and do a natural blonde 50’s style type thing. maybe like below.

It’ll cost around $1,200 once finished and I’m putting in a Seymour Duncan Invader in this one just like Tom had. Used Made in Mexico TD strat versions are going for $1k-$1,500k based on condition. They're becoming more rare to find too.

I’m not really into maple necks on guitars, but I do like them on basses......However, I have thought about getting a roasted maple neck for another build.

Sold a fuzz pedal on Reverb. Guy wants a refund because it's noisy. Give me strength...

Edit: Time stamp to a demo of this pedal...

So, after a pretty terse exchange with the buyer, I now have Reverb telling me off. They say I should have mentioned if it had a manufacturing defect.

It doesn't have a manufacturing defect, that's just part of how it is.

Is the expectation that I should describe every nuance of a pedal (or anything else sold on Reverb), just on the off chance that the buyer doesn't know what it is they're looking at?

Should I also mention that it's much quieter if you don't provide it with a battery or power supply? It's even quieter if you use it as a paperweight.

dude just walk away. you aren’t beholden to reverb or anybody else to offer a refund on that. plenty of sales are ‘final’ on that site. this is all obviously ridiculous.

I'm really just trying to determine if it's broken or not. I don't want to strand someone with something which is actually faulty.

if it wasn’t broken when you sent it to them then it’s either still not broken or it was broken in the post. the latter sounds unlikely given the description. not your problem!

Thanks dude. I've decided i'm going to sell it bc I was just gifted another guitar and I do not need another TD guitar for awhile haha. It's very pretty though.

Dang, that's wild. It's possible it's messed up, but it's also possible that it's user error or faulty gear they're using. I would to try to troubleshoot with them and if it doesn't work then I'd refund them and the thing back.

That's exactly what I did with the guy. Went to try trouble shooting (because it was insured for value on delivery, so if it was broken I could claim the money back from the postage company and refund him), but he's not really claimed it was broken. He just keeps whining that it's noisy and demanding a refund and when I fired a pretty stern message back, he went and cried to Reverb support. Selling on Reverb seems very boom or bust. I've either had really good interactions with people, or bullshit. Nothing in-between.

ahhh so he doesn’t like the product then haha. That’s on him!

Reverb support are really hopeless. Their argument is that I didn't mention that the pedal is noisy and thus I'm in the wrong, because the listing wasn't accurate. Makes their whole sold as seen option a bit of a mockery.

pedals with gain add noise. fuzz is noisy. it’s literal real world physics.
