Holy cow. Yeah this gets me way more excited than the Bergman set. Jacquot de Nantes is one of my favorites of hers, so happy it’ll be in the collection on blu-ray now.

I don’t know if anything could make me more excited than the Bergman set, but this is still an instant need without a doubt.

She's got at least half a dozen films I would call masterpieces. Truly one of the best to ever do it.

Bump. Did anyone pick up anything on the B&N Sale?

I had a $200 gift card I've been saving since Christmas, and I grabbed 12 Angry Men, The 400 Blows, Do the Right Thing, Eyes Without a Face, A Face in the Crowd, House, Paris is Burning, and The Player. Just got paid today and might go looking again after work.

This art is a good example of “clever idea that looks awful when actually executed”

I actually don't hate it, but I would have just preferred the original poster. That shit rules.

I always find it more enjoyable when directors hated each other.

It’s definitely fun when directors don’t like each other. But I enjoy when they sincerely get along and respect each other. The Bong/Scorsese moment from the last Oscars was great. Orson Welles ragging on Woody Allen was great.

Ingmar Bergman was deeply critical of Jean-Luc Godard and Orson Welles. In general there was quite a bit of animosity in the 50's/60's era. There was so much less established ideas about style and tone back then that there was much more of an ability to influence cinema, and if you are making slow and weighty films like Bergman you would not want generations to favor the chaos of Godard.

Before the end of the Criterion sale, I binged a bunch of stuff in case I liked it and wanted to buy it.

I watched the Three Colours trilogy, Paths of Glory, Bamboozled, My Own Private Idaho, Secret Sunshine, and Bicycle Thieves, and ended up grabbing Bamboozled.

Good bump. My Varda box set showed up today, excited to open it up.

Thinking of grabbing Schrader’s The Comfort of Strangers tomorrow. Looking forward to Renoir’s Toni next week too.

My Varda set came really quickly but damaged, luckily their customer service was great and I already have my replacement. It’s a gorgeous piece.
