They're a more dynamic band than people give them credit for, too. Hopes & Fears, Under the Iron Sea, Perfect Symmetry, and Strangeland all go in substantially different directions from one another.

My Dad got me into Joni and ABBA and Mary Chapin Carpenter and The Beatles and The Who and Gordon Lightfoot.

My Mom got me into the Commodores and Earth Wind and Fire and ZZ Top and Garth Brooks and George Benson.

Terms like “dad rock” and “mom music” are reductive, reinforce outdated gender norms, and serve very little purpose other than being dismissive.

Neither of my parents are big into music. I've heard names from them but they didnt really introduce me to much. My mom is mostly 80s rock and 90s pop rock. My dad is pretty much just Eagles, Dan Fogelberg, and Sade.

My personal favorite is Nether Lands (more orchestrated singer-songwriter) but his most accessible and probably his greatest achievement is The Innocent Age. It’s on the short list of great double albums, IMO. It’s structured like Springsteen, where each of the 4 album sides has an opener and closer and is sequenced like a complete thought.

Can’t go wrong with either record.

I can’t fight Phoenix in the 3 spot too hard given the hits and masterpiece closer, but Souvenirs will always hold that third spot for me personally.

my dad is easily the most musically knowledgeable person i know. my mom is also very in tune with great music, she stays away from music thats a little more out there but has a great ear for pop music of any kind. both of them worked in the industry for many years.

My mom is a 70 year old Swiss woman who doesn’t speak English but it is into Hip Hop and R&B

  25. My dad was into classic 70's rock bands but... stayed stuck in that time, and not just musical wise.

Wouldn't be posting there if my cousin didn't gift my brother and I his collection of burned pop punk and numetal (Sum 41, Blink, Linkin Park, Papa Roach...) CDs when I was like 6 or 7, which kickstarted my musical journey. Idk how, but he suddenly got into breakdancing at the time, even professionally, and turned into a hip hop / R&B connoisseur without looking back. What a twist.

Oh and Keane are great and also have excellent bsides. Haven't listened to their newest stuff, nor the singer's solo album though.
