A cutscene at the end of the theater fight was leaked and a description of when Ellie leaves the farm. The leaks said that the game ended there. Some people also interpreted the cutscene as Abby killing Ellie while missing the other plot details given.

 

I think at some point people were playing a game of telephone because one list of plot details I saw on reddit described the plot as:
- Scars kill Jesse with Ellie going after them and Joel going with her
-Abby comes in halfway through the game and kills Joel with golf club
-You switch to Abby's perspective and learn her backstory with her dad
-Not knowing what to do with Ellie, Abby and her group just take her as a captive
-Ellie escapes, killing Abby's friends to do so
- Abby goes after Ellie
-At some point Lev and Yara come into the picture
-theater fight happens with both surviving
- Ellie tries to settle down with Dina but leaves to go after Abby
There's some things that were right but not entirely. People were definitely just making some of it up based on the few cutscenes that leaked

 

I mean that all sounds like a plausible plot summary so I can't fault people for thinking it was real. Especially given how ND had misleadingly led people to believe Joel was a part of Ellie's revenge quest.

 

holy shit, Abby Seattle day 3 was fucking insane. Escaping the island during the war, favorite section of the game by far.

 

I wish the whole game was like that part tbh

 

Honestly out of all the violence in the game, the only time I let out an audible reaction was when Abby grabs that big dude by his jaw.

 

I don't think I've ever played a game that made me feel as deeply as this one from top to bottom.

Just finished it. Pretty iffy on the story / ending. Wild gameplay experience though.

 

People were mad because they thought Abby was Trans and she killed Joel, I think

 

that’s why the dorks were mad. there were people coming to the leaks legitimately that didn’t think it worked though.

 

Honestly I feel like this plot could've potentially been better if done right.

 

But that plot doesn’t make sense at all because why would they leave Jackson to travel to Seattle (which would take weeks on 18 hour days according to Jesse). It’s not in the Seraphite’s MO to leave their island and kill someone states over. They were locked in with their WLF conflict, which was pretty much exacerbated by the WLF. The game needed the inciting incident to get them to Seattle and it wasn’t going to be from the Seraphites. And the inciting incident had to be personal, because Issac wouldn’t just allow quality members do that some journey without purpose.

Neil has said that Joel’s arc was pretty much done in the first game. The plot itself was always going to be centered around it and the first idea was going to be based around an event at some point throughout the twenty years we didn’t see in the first game. Tying it in directly with the first game was the better choice, imo.

 

Yeah the events of this game are the direct consequence of what happened in the first. Adding a large section at the beginning with Joel ruins that, plus it ruins the tragic way their relationship ended which I thought was beautifully done.

 

Just finished this game after two whole weeks of playing it (lol, only played a couple hours each day) and IMO it is comfortably one of the best games ever made. Every element is done to the absolute highest standard and it is completely worthy of being considered a top 5 game on PS4 with RDR2/GTA5 etc.
The story was great BUT I genuinely think if they had ended it at the farm with Ellie wondering around with baby JJ it would have made a better ending! I really liked Abby as a character and seeing her tied to that pole damn-near wasted away was really jarring to me, and the whole fight in the water I was just like "let her go!". Then Ellie getting home to an empty house and trying to play the song with two fingers missing was IMO too sad a note to end it on. But still, there were so many incredible moments throughout the whole thing that the ending is not so big of a deal to me. Will be staring new game + first thing tomorrow!

 

Finishing a rewatch with my wife. I had assumed when playing the first time that JJ was short for Jesse Jr, but now I’m thinking it may be Jesse Joel. I like that.

Finally playing this as I held off from playing due to the discourse. I’m maybe three hours into the game, and that killed me. I think I need to take a few hours away. The amount of emotions I am experiencing from right now!!!
