The "point" doesn't matter if the song is bad

    Good thing Sweepstakes isn't!

  4. The Cardigans is better than all those bands

Just trying to disrupt the conversation in an unproductive way, carry on.

Okay, here's an actual (hot?) take: the 90's consistently featured the best guitar tones. That wall of guitar sound that was prevalent in alt rock, grunge, space rock, or even post-hardcore is my catnip.

I dunno if I’d say best cuz 70’s, but 90’s got tones. Peak big budget tones

Well if this is a bad music opinion thread, then I’ll say that punk is boring as fuck in 2020 and slowly going the way of the dinosaur because A) people wanna put bad people on pedestals or give out free passes, B) it’s largely white dominated, C) it refuses to evolve and grow past its stereotypes, and D) it has no bite regarding current politics.

I think it's a pretty popular opinion that punk (and pop-punk) has been pretty stagnant for at least 4-5 years now

Demon Days is straight up one of the best albums of the 00's

Parquet Courts, Fontaines DC, Mannequin Pussy, Idles. All amazing modern punk bands.

It’s been an incredibly long time since just straight punk has had more than a handful of exciting artists in the spotlight at once, definitely not a new development lol

I used to say I hated Coldplay, mostly because I thought it gave me “cred.” I love them now, and go to bat for even their less celebrated late period albums (other than Head Full of Dreams, which is mediocre). Their record from last year was very good and has some surprising left turns for them.

U2 are one of my favorite bands, no apologies. The Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby are some of the highest highs in any discography, and they remain a world-class live band.

I don't give a fuck about appearing credible in front of the people that might think hating Coldplay makes one credible, but I definitely hate Coldplay

I used to say I hate a lot of bands too. Now I just see most of those bands (Coldplay, U2, Keane, Travis etc.) as just bland, background music now. Not really worth an opinion. They're just... there.

Saying that, Coldplay probably shouldn't be on that list. Some of X&Y is ok and God Put A Smile Upon Your Face is a straight up BANGER.

Punk is doing okay imo, it just is pretty small, but pop punk is definitely a shitshow

OMG Keane, I had to listen to that CD in the car so much in the mid 00s, I still shiver at the thought

Also, I don't mind Oasis. But Blur and their self titled in particular is head and shoulders above anything Oasis did. I love when bands take a chance and switch up their style and some of the stuff on that album still sounds fucking great.

Fuckin' in the Bushes is a good Oasis track. I never gave the album it was on a listen. Not really ever in a mood to listen to Oasis, though haha

    hmmm

I've said it before and I'll say it again - U2's 80s stuff is way, way beyond those bland bands. They were a great band.
