  1. This one landed in my personal top 10! Really really love this record, it’s been a go-to for me all year long and have spent many nights with it just playing on repeat.

  3. I liked it, but not in the top 30 level. Just too much other great stuff and great pop this year. That release felt like b-sides to me, some good stuff, but nothing that really blew me away like Emotion and even Emotion:Side B did.

  4. Yeah, not only do I think it's a pretty diverse list, but it's not that far removed from what these lists have always had. From Phoebe to Silverstein to All Time Low to Anti-Flag to RTJ to Spanish Love Songs to HUM to Dogleg. Like, there's a looooootttt represented in there of practically all styles and genres.

I think that using the excuse of the pandemic causing this to be a slow year for albums is wrong. I’ve managed to include 50 albums on my mid year list, and I’ve found this year to be a strong year in terms of albums. There’s tons of albums that came out this year, a lot of really great ones, you just have to be open to new discoveries.

i mentioned a couple pages back, but i'm still curious about leaving Gordi off. @Jason Tate you seemed pretty pleased with it in last week's newsletter.

  8. It was at 95 on the final list. I didn't have it on mine because it just came out. Basically anything released in July or the last week of June didn't make my list cause I only had it for a week at most to listen to it, versus everything else being in rotation for months on end.

Oof that's low. It's such a beautiful album.

Silverstein does not deserve to be on this list in my opinion. That record is a massive letdown.

I swear...I've never heard of 90% of these bands/artists in my life.

If you haven't heard of these artists that means you have a bunch of new music to check out! Just because you have never heard of them does not mean they are bad or not worth checking out.

I'll have to disagree here, it's my favorite album of the year so far.

I was wondering where Haim was then I remember it just missed the initial first half window. Apple Music plays around with me as it still says it came out prior to June for me.

THANK YOU for mentioning this. I’d completely forgotten to listen to it. This is perfect. Will definitely be featuring on my EOY list.

Odd post to make then. If you "like what you like" and don't want to discover new music then that's your problem and not anyone else's problem for listening to artists you don't know. Also, you wouldn't know if you like an artist if you've never listened to them before, so check them out before making such a statement. A solid amount of the best albums released this year are on this list.

Music elitists who refuse to check out new music and criticize folks for doing so (which is what is seemingly happening here) are no fun and quite frankly annoying.

  24. Just something I have on my mind: I think it's okay if people didn't listen to a tons of new stuff this year, compared to any other ones. I know at first, personally, I wasn't sure if I wanted to associate my memories of idk... Dua, Fiona, and Enter Shikari's new stuff with a pandemic and everything that happened since. I did anyway, but who knows how that will alter my perception of those albums in the following years.

Really glad! ;D I've been a bit more invested with the newer releases I mentioned in my post for now, but Jenny Dee with her debut is definitely a pleasant surprise, I'll be coming back to it a lot this year.
