I think after the leaks people decided they weren't even going to give the game a chance

Yep. I mean I have my criticisms of it, but fucking hell are some of the posts I’ve seen are absolute arse. I can’t imagine watching cutscenes for a game and thinking my opinion of it is more valuable than anybody who has actually slugged through it and got emotionally invested. 35 hours I logged. And I’m meant to take someone who hasn’t even played it and had no interest in playing it seriously just because they watched clips on YouTube and wanted to join the bandwagon? Nah.

This is how I felt. And you know I wasn’t crazy about the original haha. I thought the story was even better an overall incredible experience.

20 hours or so in and it's a pretty bog-standard revenge story with mostly improved gameplay from the original. Maybe the rest of the game will blow me away but it's not looking likely atm. It's fine so far.

i think i’m almost done with the game. i have some complaints about pacing in TLOU2, scavenging, and thought some areas were too long. But I never felt angry or betrayed about anything the game threw at me story-wise.

If anything I’m worried about how the fragility of these angry gamers will affect people working on games and that makes me so mad.

So before covid took over everything Xbox series x was reportedly supposed to come out in August then the series s in October or November

Considering the game sold incredibly well, I don't think you need to worry about a small minority of sexist/homophobic shitposters affecting the kinds of stories people making games are willing to tell.

If anything, TLOU2 should serve as a sign that video game consumers are more than happy to support games that don't star straight white cis male protagonists. It should lead in theory to more games with such representation, not less.

I can't see developers that see the importance of including non-male and LGBTQ+ characters suddenly stopping because some nerds got mad. They know what some nerds are like and they definitely would have seen the outrage coming.

I could see publishers getting wary of including non-straight white cis male protagonists in games if the sales of a game like TLOU2 had bombed. But the exact opposite of that occurred so there's no reason for them to worry about taking financial hits when greenlighting games like this (which is obviously the only thing they care about).
