The Dick Van Dyke Show is still staggeringly good to this day. TV rarely has a shelf life that eternal, but Reiner was just that good.

 

The whole team involved was incredible. I’ve been watching it in full the last few months and thinking about Carl a lot lately. He had a tremendous career and life.

 

Imagine getting Dick Van Dyke, Mary Tyler Moore, Morey Amsterdam, Rose Marie, Richard Deacon, Jerry Paris and Carl Reiner together on the same project before ANY of them were stars? Just...how on earth. What stars had to align.

 

A show full of legends based on the real experience of writing a show full of legends. So good.

 

What the fuck!?

 

I need to revisit this show... maybe around 5-6 years ago it was in Netflix and I watched the first few episodes but gave up. Now that it’s on Hulu I should give it another chance.

 

It gets better as it goes. The early episodes don’t quite have the rhythm yet, solid as they are.

 

That is fucking heartbreaking. I've been reading his wife's updates for months now. Absolutely devastating.

 

yeah I've been hoping he'd recover but it was seeming less and less likely and I'm glad he's no longer in pain

Absolutely devastating. I hoped the news was wrong since it seemed to only come from one source a few hours ago, but I knew that was just wishful thinking. This entire story is too painful.

 

motherfucker, rip to an all-time legend

 

Such a sad loss, he contributed an insane amount of great music to some of the best films out there. RIP.
