I just listened to their newest for the first time today, I thought it was great. I might have a narrow scope to compare it to, but the heavier parts reminded me a lot of Underoath’s Disambiguation.

I don’t know if I have ever heard The Ocean and Underoath in the same sentence but if it gets you to listen, let’s go with it!

 

Might have to listen to The Ocean now that this comparison has been made

I mean in your defense they both fall into “post” genres so there might be a hint of overlap with the aggressive parts.

 

Yeah I definitely get the post metal vibes with The Ocean and the more post hardcore with Underoath. It’s the heavier screaming sections of The Ocean where I really think the guy sounds similar to Spencer, especially his performance on Disambiguation.

Holy cow bloodjinn, haven't heard that name in over a decade

 

This sounds massive.

 

Some more traditional metal

 

Not sure if this is well known or not, but Bloodjinn was the live band that backed Matt when he did Killwhitneydead shows.

 

Been revisiting Skeletal Remains. Still rip.

YCBY has some classics (zombies, crystal lake, ghostchant) but Opposite of Dec is killer front to back

 

It's going to take a while until I reach their newer stuff but I'm going to go on a discography run so I'll try to confirm that along the line lol.

I thought I already did one but my lastfm comes up empty. I think I might be mistaking them for another band, certainly in that same genre?

I was listening to Phanerozoic I: Palaeozoic, and that was my first exposure to the band.
