Some really next-level songs from Golden Record, but it's also incoherently sequenced and has the worst songs they ever put on a record, imo.

It is way too hard to pick out of the middle three but I'd say right now that's the order even if feels insane to put War Paint that low.

The talk here has me wondering how the band's post-reunion moves would be viewed if not for the drama that led to the initial hiatus. Because a band without that baggage doing the following...

    a) re-emerging with a really good album
    b) putting out arguably their best album (second imo)
    c) touring the world including the 10-year RFTS shows which were great
    d) starting their own label and giong fully independent
    e) losing their drummer
    f) preparing a new EP -- their third release in as many years

... would be considered on a great roll -- and the move to go indie would be particularly celebrated.

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

I don't like s/t much at all but I fully agree that they've nailed this reunion. Mother Nature is easily their most rounded and mature album and it feels like something they were building to all along. nabbing Aaron for drums is just the latest in a series of dope decisions this band has been making and I can't wait to see where they go

RFTS and MN are pretty much a tie in my book. RFTS gets the number one because it has a ten year head start. The self titled is criminally underrated. There are many great songs from WP and GR. Just because they’re last doesn’t mean they’re not loved.

Honorable mention goes to the If You Could Only Keep Me Alive EP. It ranks last but if it wasn’t for that EP I never would’ve got this far

Absolutely. I still really like certain songs off S/t. Infinite being among their best ever. They should always keep that as their closer imo. But something about the album feels a little flat when I've revisited.

Self titled is their weakest by a distance IMO but it's still solid, it starts and ends really well, just the middle section that loses me. Clearly a comeback album

We reach for the longest shadow

I’d say before just because their style of pop rock was much more popular back then. But to their credit they’ve stuck it out and stayed fresh, and have outlasted most of their peers.

Just noticed some people were including the If You Could Only Keep Me Alive EP in their rankings. That would definitely be dead last for me. Songs are decent but they're mostly are too long and overstay their welcome.

Interesting fact that I rank MN ahead of Golden but my play count on Golden far surpasses MN. I just think the record hit at a weird time for me and I just never let it sink in or really desired to. They used to be the band for me and I just don’t listen to them all that much recently.

  22. Some songs off of GR are by far some of my most played TDS tracks.

I actually like more songs on Golden Record than either self titled or MN somehow.
