MTV is having a throw back day tomorrow (6/26), they’ll be playing the 2000 VMA’s from 8-11pm EST. I know those VMA’s include blinks performance to close out the show.

I've been using plug-in software to recreate album tones for fun, and one thing I've realized is how clean so many of Tom's tones are.

Like Anthem Part 2 & Dumpweed have such little gain on them, but they sound so huge you's never notice.

Read an interview that recently came out with Tom, but was done 8 years year ago. I have to find it. Tom talked about the tones with Jerry Finn and how the clean tones were pretty key with Finn. Then they dabbled in subtle effects on the guitars like flangers/delays. Cool stuff.

EDIT - Here it is. Classic interview: Tom DeLonge talks Blink-182, Boxcar Racer and Angels & Airwaves album history | MusicRadar

I'm interested in this too haha. Axe FX seems cool, but I'm not ready to drop the money on that. Just yesterday I was looking into Neural DSP plugins. Bias FX seems pretty cool too, but the Neural DSP reviews i've seen seem far superior for what I like.

STL Tonehub is by far my favorite amp software. It sounds way more open and natural than the Line 6 Floorboard I use live, and is just the perfect balance between customizable and user-friendly.

It also has a John Feldman Preset Pack add-on so you can get the tones from California.

More gain = more compressed = smaller

I wonder how long he's been using STL Tonehub. He did a similar video with his bundle for the Kemper.

Wait....Are those the same thing?! I'm confused haha. Both videos have the same song and are on the same SLT Tone channel.

I think my favorite Blink guitar flourish is the super brief minor iv chord at 1:57 in Aliens Exist

The voicing is split between the bass and guitar, but on that time for the post chorus riff Tom hits an open G when Mark goes to E and it makes a really quick Em.

    Gotta be a Jerry thing

    Sigh...

So California part 3? No thanks

EDIT: the only way I will be pumped on the idea is if they are working on the songs that they worked on originally when Matt joined (pre-Feldmann) that sounded "too much like old Blink and Alkaline Trio."

I think it keeps it interesting if each record has its own feels well still sounding like the same band. I’ve enjoyed every record so I just look forward to new music. Sometimes talking about a record too much before it’s written leads to expectations that aren’t met, but these guys are all pros.

I think hyping California up as "like Enema" and Nine as "like Untitled" really hurt expectations for them. Same with Tom calling every new project "the greatest thing I've ever made." They need to keep quiet and let the music speak for itself!

it’s great they’re excited, but once they compare new stuff to old stuff people naturally fixate in on those comparisons. I think just going with descriptors of the style of new material is enough.

Does anyone have the Tom Delonge “tiome” magazine meme? Can’t find it anywhere.

Hear the AK3 for sure - that channel also has Smells Like Teen Spirit flipped, and it very oddly works.

Whenever an artist says they're going back to their old sound it's almost never actually the case when it comes out
