I still had very different hopes for what this record would be, but it’s still a very NFG record. Maybe all the feedback will help them in the future or maybe they’ll just ignore it and keep doing their own their. Either way is fine as long as they continue making music together and having fun.

 

I have a real hard time ranking this band’s discography as a whole, but S&S, S/T, Catalyst, NWAF, and Coming Home are very clearly my top five, with the latter three being interchangeable order wise.

 

Excited to see how this charts on Friday. It's been a long time since they've had an album debut in the top 20.

Damn, it's crazy by how little of music consumption comes from physical sales these days. Looking at that projected Top 20, nine of them have less than 1,000 physical sales.

 

I almost feel like I need to have different ranking criteria with their discography. Like a "Most emotionally connected to" ranking and a "Most fun and energetic" ranking.

 

Honestly? Chad Gilbert's disgusting actions ruined this band for me. Fuck NFG.

Also, this album is mid at best. Sounds like a really tired attempt at keeping their fans on the hook for another 2 years.

 

I don’t get how you can say “Fuck NFG” and then listen to the album.

 

You can still be interested in the music a band you used to enjoy is putting out and think negatively of a particular member, or even the band as a whole.

 

Downloaded the leak when it happened months ago. This band was big for me when I was younger. Nothing else.

Production on the new album is growing on me. I’m into the guitar and drums tones. It’s throwback sounding but definitely cleaned up.

Makes Me Sick production was awesome too. Probably the closest to a Jerry Finn sounding production the with synth added beneath the guitar driven parts. Very Blink-182-esque. Barbed Wire, Party On Apocalypse, and Heaven Sent are good examples.

Honestly, they should just team up Aaron Sprinkle and Will Pugh at the same time haha. Co-Producers. Loved Aaron’s use of synth and I loved Will’s production choices in instrument tones and mixing. Dang, now that’d be something else.

 

Same. This band meant a lot to me coming of age as a teenager and I’ve spent years of my life seeing them live and checking out their new stuff when it came out. However, both what happened with Steve and Chad just being gross and abusive to women soured me on the band and I really can’t listen to them anymore. If y’all wanna support them, it’s your right to but count me out on joining you.

 

Still waiting on my smartpunk variant. It's traveling extra places and I have no idea why. It's annoying. Usually once something is processed through Minneapolis, it goes to my local post office next. It's going to be a week since the release by the time I get it!I wish these places would send out pre-orders a bit more ahead of time to ensure they are delivered as close to release day as possible. Who cares if it arrives a day early?

 

The accountability thread is very thought provoking and I’m curious, what do y’all make of Chad / his past with women?

 

What has happened with Chad that turned some
people against NFG? I know there was some public fallout about Chad's divorce but I haven't seen a lot of tangible details on that through my Google research.

I'm not concern trolling, I'm admittedly very out of touch since I really only pay attention to them these days for the first few weeks that a new album is out and afrer that I tend to not pay a lot of attention to them until another album comes out.

 

Grooming of Haley Williams and Sheri Dupree. People also are weirded out that he’s engaged to someone in the 25-28 age range which I don’t see anything wrong with. I see the grooming angle of Hayley and Sheri though.

 

Got it. I just found the accountability in music thread and quickly got an understanding of the reasoning.

So he cheated on his wife but then wrote "the worst person" about Steve cheating on his wife? Are the other guys active scumbags besides being complicit about Chad? I've always had a ton of respect for Ian.

 

Well, I would argue that's enough to define them all as "scumbags".

 

It’s definitely not a good look on them to wring their fists at Steve and then shrug their shoulders at Chad’s behavior.

So you’re fine with a grown ass man grooming and manipulating a teenage girl on Warped and cheating on his wife with said teenage girl? Are you also fine with both women talking about the emotional abuse of their marriages? Only because he didn’t whip his dick out on a webcam?

 

Grooming of Sheri as in, she was a minor? I thought him and her were the same age?

Can I just pop back in again to say that there are other women Chad has used his position to pressure into things they weren’t comfortable with (sexting while married, pics, etc.), the woman he cheated on Hayley with was again a much younger and more sheltered person... his whole deal is wifeing up a Christian girl he can manipulate and then fucking around. Not to mention the INSANELY disrespectful songs he has written about his exes and total refusal to take accountability for himself. I have never heard a good word about this man from a single person I know in the industry, but cool, he wrote “my friends over you.” (Which is also... a shitty, problematic song.)

 

And no, I will never stop talking about this because he is a part of the toxic culture that this scene is built on and it needs to be addressed as much as any of his contemporaries.
