Cyrus mentioned in the interview a few pages back that Chad writes most of the lyrics these days.

Regarding Steve's trial: Pre-trial conference 9/15 and jury trial set to begin 10/27.

Even with Chad's terrible lyrics I still like this band. Ian and I both got sober around the same time and he along with a couple of other musicians I really respect as people tweeted some inspiration and advice to me and I will always appreciate that.

When the whole Steve stuff happened, they said he was never the main songwriter. I think that’s a lie. It was always painted that he was the main lyricist and chad was the music writer. The lyrics definitely got worse when Steve left. And based on the lyrics of the last two albums and what’s eating Gilbert, I think it’s pretty clear chad writes most of everything. I refuse to believe Steve has had any involvement since he left

  4. He once messaged me on Instagram a dozen+ photos of the original lyric notebooks to a whole bunch of original NFG songs. I didn't respond.

Yeah, the improved music from that album, I think is pretty clearly Aaron Sprinkle. His fingerprints are all over that thing in the best way.

If I remember right I believe Chad said that he wrote the lyrics to My Friends Over You and The Story So Far (he mentioned a few other songs but I can’t remember them). He said Steve didn’t write the lyrics to all the songs even though Steve said he did when he was in the band.

Wasn’t it said in their story do far dvd that Steve was the lyricist and chad was the music writer

"though you swear that you are true i still pick my friends over you" def has the stink of chad gilbert style misogyny on it.

(as opposed to klein style offense abundantly represented elsewhere in the catalogue)

That’s saying a lot coming from the guy who wrote “I need a girl that I can train”

    kind of on this topic,

I was listening to good charlotte yesterday, who for me has aged *slightly* better than most pop punk, and it occurred to me they don't have that many "love songs"/ "songs about girls" and maybe that's why their music is less cringe inducing than their peers. Not that they escape criticism ("My Bloody Valentine", "Girls and Boys"), and I think the bigger factor is their songs are compositionally stronger and better produced, but having never thought about it, I was kinda surprised how few of their songs are stereotypical pop punk songs in that regard.

Blink is probably the worst offender. I can't really think of any NFG songs off the top of my head that aren't about girls?

Its so weird how when I first listened to this in February I thought it was just okay, but fun. I didn't return to it much until it officially came out and now it feel completely different about it. It's rad, it's fun, it's cheesy AF, and it's nostalgic. I'm cool with it. Listening to it makes me happy and thats all I can really ask for from a pop punk band these days.

It's nice to see praise for the album throughout the internet too.

I was pretty hard on it back in March or whatever, but I've thrown it on in the background while playing video games the last few nights and it's pretty perfect for that

I live in Hoboken, NJ and I woke up at 6:30am this morning to "holding on to you, holding on to you" from Same Side Sitters. I thought it was my phone playing the music but it was someone in the street BLASTING it. Hahaha, what a wake up.

EDIT: Also reminds me last year i was walking out of Costco and a motorcycle was blasting "At Least I'm Known For Something" in the parking lot. Lots of NFG fans in NJ.

Always strange to me when the lead singer barely speaks live.

Working out right now and was listening to Resurrection and I guess I’m always harder on that album than I should be. It’s really not as bad as I make it out to be. And I say this every time.

I guess this is still my favorite band. I don’t listen to them all that consistently anymore. I really don’t even listen to music all that much at all anymore. But when I put them on I always feel good about it.

Sounds like not much. I assume he tweaks some phrasing but it doesn’t sound like he writes a lot.

The young and the hopeless holds up so well in my opinion. I still spin all their stuff fairly regularly outside of the first album.

Why do you think they didn’t go with him or will pugh again? Cost? Side note: i wonder what feldman would do with a band like them.

  25. No idea. Not sure why they didn’t go with Will either.
