Da Five Bloods: America sent poor, disproportionately black men into a war they had no business fighting in the first place. Those same men end up stuck in that war, well after it is over. This movie is a thoughtful look into the trauma and guilt that comes with that. It's also a wild ride and a good time. Give Delroy Lindo an oscar for this one.

    Imperial Dreams:
I've been trying to find this one forever. Found it highlighted on Netflix this weekend (how long has it been hiding there?). I thought it was great. It's a frustrating look at how hard it is for incarcerated Americans (particularly for POC) to rehabilitate upon release, but then just how easy that system then makes it to fall right back into the prison system. John Boyega really is a fantastic actor

I’m pretty sure I don’t really like Kevin Smith but is Dogma any good? the synopsis sounds funny

i watched the commerative edition of ali last night (free to rent until the end of the month, as is the original) and i found myself enjoying way more than the theatrical cut. took a couple of the fights out, but everything feels so much more fluid, despite only being a few minutes shorter. even adds a dedication of sorts to ali (mann made this sometime after his death.)

i'd honestly recommend it to anyone who only saw the original version, especially if they had issues with it

I remember liking it, but the last time I saw it was middle school so take that with a grain of salt.

IMO every Kevin Smith movie up through Zack and Miri Make a Porno is worth watching, then he takes a nosedive for some reason. It's been years since I've seen any of them though so some of them might have dated material

30 minutes into Knives Out... is this going to be a total slog?

Personally, I loved it all the way through and how it changed styles throughout. I'm glad you enjoyed it though!

I really don’t get the hype with Kevin Smith.

Knives Out though? Excellent mystery film.

Is Kevin Smith still hyped? It feels like most people regard him as a joke now.

I did Julia Roberrs spree last week. Shes really the same person in every movie huh. I totally understand her marketability in the 90s though. Anyway I watched all of these movies for the first time ever

    PRETTY WOMAN - 7/10.

Enjoyable. Corny and campy at times but it held my attention without rolling my eyes too much. Hotel manager was the cutest character ever. Cant believe George Costanza was a rapidly. Cant believe Julia Robert's was 22 in that movie.

    ERIN BROKOVICH - 6/10

A little long and repetitive with a story that wasnt thatttttttt interesting. The erin character wasnt one of the more captivating characters and while the case was interesting, it just got repetitive with a semi predictable ending. Lots of cleavage

MY BEST FRIENDS WEDDING - 2/10

Terrible. Julia Roberts character is an awful person. It makes the movie unwatchable. Why the singing?

As Good As It Gets was kinda great. Definitely wasn’t boring. The portrayal of OCD was pretty commendable.

  20. Wow, didn't expect to see that get mentioned in here. I remember watching this in AP Psych (and I've watched it a couple times since), really liked it.

It's not great but I enjoyed seeing revamped versions of all the classic Hanna-Barbera characters I watched growing up

Barry Lyndon - Damn I loved this. It perfectly sums up the ridiculousness of class systems and the difficultly in trying to advance to higher levels. Every time Barry, or another character, advances their situation in life, it is at the expense of someone else and in the end, it's all for not. The last shot, in particular, has stuck with me. The way Lady Lyndon is once again subjugated by a man, this time her own son, is disturbing. Possibly my favorite Kubrick.

    The Quake - 3/5

Fantastic effects, but the family dynamic felt a little flat footed. The Wave felt more sincere for sure.

    The Florida Project (2017) - 8/10

My actual enjoyment of this was probably a 7 but I bumped it up for Mr. Dafoe. It’s his birthday!
