I was just going ask if there were any prior issues with them. I don’t know much about Riddle. Not really a fan to be honest.

 

How has AEW been? Missed the past couple weeks. The OC/Jericho feud has to be good

 

For sure, but wrestling mirrors Hollywood in having the power dynamics especially tipped towards men; where the trainers/bookers are a lot like studio execs/directors in terms of power and access.

Wrestling also might be one of the worst environments when you consider how little power someone starting out has, how few "big" roles there are for women, and the low-pay grind of touring where you're forced to be in that van or hotel with a Riddle because you cant afford any other way.

The Riddle stuff is weird.

 

Anyone else put off a bit by the male wrestlers who are responding to these allegations with expressions of shock?

The problems run deep enough, that I feel like anyone in the business who wasn't aware of them simply wasn't paying enough attention.

I can understand male wrestlers who didn't say anything but it wasn't their story to share. Or ones who didn't say anything because even when they witnessed abusive behavior, their privilege prevented them from actually seeing it as abusive behavior. Or ones that also felt pressured and intimidated to staying silent.

But if you aren't even aware any of its happening at all... that's on you for how you conducted yourself.

I am relatively new to posting in this thread. But does anyone listen to ‘Wrestling Daft’ with Grado and Rab Florence? It’s actually a really enjoyable podcast and I’m a part-time wrestling fan. They have had likes of Chris Jericho & Hornwoggle on, but along with lots of British Wrestlers. Really funny to listen to. FYI Rab Florence is a comedy writer in Scotland.

Just about to listen to their tribute episode to Lionheart who took his own life a year ago. That guy was an absolute fantastic heel in ICW. Didn’t perhaps appreciate it until it was no more, unfortunately.

It will be interesting to see what they say about the current situ which is hard to ignore. A few of there guests have been on the list of people accused.

 

The riddle stuff seems sketchy... a little too convenient that all the witnesses were asleep...

But damn, where there’s smoke there fire blah bla bla I guess.

even if some of all these are true... that’s really shitty

 

So, the two things that do run throughout most of these stories are that the women felt like they had to not even hint to people about these (except maybe occasionally to a very trusted female friend), and that its guys basically waiting for the right moment (alone in a hotel room, via text rather than in person, etc), so that combo makes it a little understandable someone might not know.

But, I agree that, with how pervasive it is, you'd find it hard for someone big in the UK scene not to have at least a guess that half his locker room are sexual predators.
