YITL is such a massive highlight. I smile every time it comes on.

 

I remember Christian tweeting about Shania Twain a lot a while back and I feel like I hear that quality a little on You In This Light

 

This album is all I've been listening to the last few weeks. I don't know if I've ever related more to a song than I do to Two Deliverances right now.

 

It speaks volumes to the talent of this band that they made an album as dark and heavy as Home, and then made an album as sunny and beautiful as Goodness.

Yea I have no idea where they go next but I'm sure I'll love it.

LP2 has gotten pretty close though

 

I need to pay LP2 another visit. My impression of it was that it meandered a bit too much for my tastes.

 

it's without a doubt their most frustrating record and it took me a while to get into, but now I love how impenetrable and inscrutable it is. "8" is also maybe my favorite SDRE song

 

Every single time the intro to Piano Player just hits me right in the chest. Idk if it's the guitar drone or the piano flourish or the way the vocals sort of fade in but it's currently my "go to" song on the album.

 

Piano Player is under rated

 

Yea it's a really good song that took a long time for me to get.

 

Piano Player is my second favorite Hotelier song, behind only Two Deliverances.

 

Something i noticed today was how often the lyrics reference Christian being spoken to by birds, as if they communicated his emotions back to him. Its in Introduction, Goodness pt 2, Opening Mail, and probably other spots im missing. Just thought that was a cool motif

 

"Because birds we fly together, I feel tethered, de-feathered and weathered"

 

Speaking of birds in the lyrics, I usually go for a walk near my office on my lunch break and typically take the same route. Towards the end there's this part of the sidewalk that has cracks and missing concrete in the shape of a bird.

I first noticed this around the time this album came out and it always makes me think of the lyrics in "Goodness pt. 2" and today I finally remembered to take a picture of it when I went by –
