Gonna start it tonight. The promo posters I looked up sold me on it. Apparently it’s also the shortest season at 9 episodes so shouldn’t take me long.

 

We'll have to talking about it once we're finished!

 

My first date in months, i'm excited.

 

Asylum is the only one I can recommend under good conscience. I liked Freak Show too, but a lot of people had problems with it. Murder House was meh, got too confusing at the end. Coven too trashy for me, and all the other later seasons range from unwatchable to guilty pleasure. You won’t get a real consensus opinion here because we all have different rankings, but pretty sure most of us liked Asylum.

 

Yep. The only two I actively disliked were Hotel and Apocalypse, but I almost disliked them enough to not finish them.

 

Murder House was good (esp if you ignore the last episode)
Asylum would have been great if they got rid of one plot line aliens
Coven was a mess

 

I liked the first 3 seasons. Haven't managed to finish any other season that I've tried.

Asylum is the best without a doubt. It did have a few tangents but it also had the strongest characters and an actual sense of the story meaning something. There are a few episodes that are pretty powerful.

I liked every season through Hotel despite some major flaws, but the only season since then that I’ve enjoyed at all was Apocalypse. Even that fell apart at the end, but the way they brought back previous stories and characters worked for me. It should have been the end of the series because of how much it tied into the history of the show.

 

Watching AHS: Cult right now (2 eps left) and it's just ok. At this point, I think the show is not for me for the most part other than Murder House, Asylum, and Roanoke.

Also, I watched the Cursed Films doc series on Shudder. A lot of it is fascinating but also sad.

I’m always surprised to read that Coven wasn’t really appealing here. I loved the performances, cast, and storyline for the most part outside of Evan Peter’s character arc.

 

The tone of it was so different from the previous two seasons that I didn’t like it when it first aired, but on later watches I appreciated it a lot more.

 

I really liked the first few episodes of Coven but I feel like the stakes got ruined when any character who was killed could just be brought back

Oh yeah that’s every season except Asylum basically, lol. Maybe Murder House?

And it did get kind of silly which was part of why I had such a problem with it way back when, but stuff like KNOTTY PIIIINE absolutely cracks me up now.

I guess the only other big issue with Coven is how some of the violence was beyond brutal and more horrific than what has been in any other season, but that was juxtaposed against arguably the most humor in the show as well. That felt pretty jarring.

Yes to Misty, no to Freak Show! I loved those characters so much. I also am biased because I’ve met a fair amount of actors from that season, but I liked it before that happened. The worst for me will probably always be Roanoke. Hated every single choice they made and I can’t remember if I ever managed a complete rewatch of it. The format took me out of the season completely.

 

I like Freak Show, actually. Can’t stand Coven. It’s impossible to take seriously, especially when a character inexplicably masturbates to a minotaur. And, the reviving thing destroys the stakes, as said above.

I feel like I should know this by now but do you like found footage?

 

I intensely disliked Jessica Lange's character in Freak Show but I did enjoy Dandy's comeuppance
