In regards to gun control, people push for things like mandatory and stronger background checks and closing gun show loopholes. That’s common sense and the bare minimum of what we should be doing in regards to gun control, but it hasn’t been done so we still need to push for it.

Pushing this shit and not defunding the police or calling for places to cut their ties with the cops is an incredble lack of a sense of the moment we are in right now. The Minneapolis City Council is talking about disbanding and dismantling the MPD, and cities are talking about slashing police budgets for the first time in I have no idea how long. For "serious activists" like Deray to push 8CantWait just conveys the idea that this is all that can be done and that is so obviously wrong. It should all be at the very bottom of a list of demands, but these guys are trying to make them the only demands.

 

Seriously, the 8CantWait website provides so much data and talks about how reasonable it all is, as if any of those are ideas that even NEED to be thoroughly argued for and not, as you are saying @MysteryKnight, common sense and the bare minimum. There is no mention of it being the "bare minimum" anywhere. You're defending it on grounds that it itself is not living up to
