All Hope Is Gone is also much much much more just plain mediocre than it is terrible.

 

Yeah I don’t get the hate for AHiG. I like a lot of stuff on it

I honestly didn't even know people didn't like that album. Granted I'm a pretty casual Slipknot fan but my understanding has always been that The Gray Chapter was viewed as the weakest album in their catalog, and that people pretty much universally enjoyed All Hope Is Gone.

 

AHIG is the album that band members like Clown have said they aren't satisfied with in hindsight. I feel it too, out of the whole album there are maybe five songs I regularly go back to -- I'm actually in the minority that would place The Gray Chapter above AHIG. Having said that, the songs that are good on AHIG are phenomenal (Psychosocial, Sulfur, Snuff, the title track, and at a push I'd say Dead Memories and Gehenna are worth a nod too).

 

I don't know, AHIG is really not a good album to me.

 

Just shuffling nervously, not liking any full Slipknot project... (outside a few random tracks here and there)

To be fair though I have not heard their last two albums in full so should I give those two a shot?

 

We Are Not Your Kind is great

 

We Are Not Your Kind is right up there with S/t and Iowa.

 

The intro to gematria is my favorite after (sic).

 

Gematria! I forgot about that one. Also a decent track.

And yeah, straight up, WANYK is their best album since Iowa, it's genuinely a great record.

 

Though firmly in the hardcore camp, there's enough death metal influence here for me to recommend to you all to check out the new Xibalba album. This thing is filthy.

I don’t know. This one is by far their most metal adjacent record in a while. It’s very good though. I’ve had it on rotation ever since the promo dropped.

I think this is already my favourite Xibalba album. It's so good.

 

I’ve never heard of them, but all the talk about them on this page I’m excited to check them out. Even more excited seeing that they’re a cali-Hispanic hardcore band.

 

Fifteen years ago I learned how to play guitar by playing Metallica sounds. Never was good enough to learn the solos.

I'm trying to play more these days and I can't even play some of those same songs lol. James Hetfield is a down picking legend.

 

Say what you will about Metallica, but this is TRUTH

 

Songs like Creeping Death and Disposable Heroes aren't technical or complicated at all riff wise, I just don't have the speed or strength to play the basic parts at normal speed without it sounding messy lol
