that seems very unlikely to me considering his trajectory, maybe if he loses everything like Job.

  2. He hasn't apologised and he seems weirdly proud of this route he's gone down so his career deserves to implode imo. I don't see him ever walking this back or changing course, and even if he does he'll have to do a lot to earn people's forgiveness. Fuck him.

I believe in forgiveness, but it'll take a lot. From an outside perspective, it seems the obvious first step is therapy of some sort. Then there is showing his forgiveness, and meaning it. And doing various other things to make up for his mis-steps and what he has caused.

Do I think that will happen? No. But I also wish that it will.

Wasn’t he at one point in therapy/rehab of some sort or am I imagining this?

Don't quote me on this, but I recall him being on medication for his mental health which he decided to stop taking

I really don't think he's incapable of still making incredible music if he actually wants to try, it's just that he hasn't really been focused on music outside Kids See Ghosts which was amazing (but mostly for Cudi to be fair). If he set everything else aside and really focused on making another masterpiece I think he could easily still do it

As far as him as a person, if Trump loses I think he'll stop parroting right wing talking points so much. I really doubt he'll keep voting republican, I think he specifically really likes Trump as a person because he sees himself in him and how he's perceived (not that that's any better). Obviously his level of forgiveness given by fans/the public will change depending on the person. Personally, his music means too much to me to write him off as an artist, but I've totally stopped defending him like I used to to people all the time and I likely never will again, I'll just keep enjoying the music and stopping there.

I also doubt he'll be a Christian artist forever, he's had way too many different phases for me to think he'll stick with one permanently

I think you can think of him as a person whatever you want, but when people are saying he doesn't make good music anymore they are letting their opinions about him as a person (or their opinions about Gospel, because Jesus Is Born was a good Gospel album) influence their perception of his music, because many of the last couple of projects he has worked on as a producer have been great. The production on Teyana Taylor album for example is up there with all the other amazing stuff in his back catalogue.

Which is fine, I guess, but also makes discussing his work pretty futile at this point.

The production on all of those summer 2018 albums was amazing. Daytona's beats are all great and even though a lot of people didn't like Nasir, that was more on Nas I think

Right. And Jesus Is Born was a good Gospel album. Even a lot of the tracks on his albums had good beats, even if they could have used more work (or at least Ye, I don't actually remember the last one). It's him as a rapper that is the problem at this point, but that is not all that he is and it never was. In fact, he always was a better producer than rapper anyway.

The albums he’s worked on for other artists have been fine. His own albums have been trash water.

The production on the Teyana Taylor album has been more than fine

Even those albums weren't really "produced" by him though, apparently he just chopped up the samples they used and multiple other producers put the tracks together.

Jik is not a good gospel album, his understanding of religion is basic af and has nothing important to say and it sounds like a Christian rap parody album id find on Bandcamp

couldn't make it through either of the Jesus albums tbh, but gospel (and religion) aren't really for me, so...

I think Daytona was easily his best work since Pablo though and I don't really dislike Ye

As far as music goes....I loved ye. Hated JIK.

as far as everything else goes...I haven’t had an urge to listen to Kanye since JIK dropped. Lost the taste. And even before that it was nearly non existent.

I mean, a lot of hip hop producers on Kanye’s level do that. They come up with the concept, for example by picking and chopping up the samples, and let others do the rest of busy work. Dre was known for doing that too for example.

Yeah but I think if that's the case he has been given way too much credit for the production of those records when his contributions alone would just be material to sample lol

I think you’re underestimating the value of finding and picking the right sample and then chopping it properly. Especially in the case of, well, sample beats.

Anyway, that’s also very likely not all “he” did. When you listen to the artists talk about working with him that becomes very clear. A lot of hip hop producers on Kanye's level that work this way like to point out that they are exactly that, “producers”, as opposed to say “beat makers“.

  22. I'm just not convinced Kanye is anything more than an idiot with a big mouth and a good ear. I love a good portion of his work but I have no hope of ever being satisfied again.
