Looking at mine again, I want to change it because While You're Waiting isn't on there.

You know what song is really great? "Fine". No one really mentions it, but goddamn does Dan kill it on that one.

Dan's really brought his game on the last couple of records. I think all of my favorite songs on This Addiction are his.

Totally agree. He shines on that album. "Fine," "Off the Map," and "Kick Rocks" all rule and rank up there as personal faves. Shame it's considered to be one of their weakest overall but I still like the album a good amount.

I definitely think This Addiction is the weakest, but I still love "weak" Alkaline Trio. Dan's songs are all great on that album, and I love Dead on the Floor and Dorothy.

    Amen!

This band has never made a wrong move, IMO. They're consistent as hell. That's why I love them so much.

Love If We Never Go Inside being on there.....that was my favorite off GM and it always seems so underrated with the fan base.

Also, Dan has been the strongest writer/singer of the two since Crimson. They were tied on Good Mourning and FHTI, but he definitely took a noticeable step forward on those albums.

I'm still bummed we never got an official single/video for "Do You Wanna Know"....definitely thought it was coming after the label forced them to put it on the album.

I think This Addiction is better than Agony & Irony, but I'm a pretty big fan of the former. Some of the lyrics are pretty corny but there's a few real gems on that album.

Anyone interested in buying two tickets to see Dan Andriano in the Emergency Room (with Derek Grant) on Friday, October 21 in Chicago at the Cobra Lounge?

So sorry to tarnish an ALK3 board with reference to Blink-182, but anybody heard that new song of theirs called 'Kings of the Wkend'?

They have a line (a sorry, sorry line) in it that goes 'Thank god for punk rock bands'. Now, my question is - how the feck can Skiba sit comfortably in that band when they're singing bile like that?? (someone who has traded a good portion of their career on all things occult and is a fan of Anton LaVey)

But listening to that song... I'm kinda embarrassed for Skiba...

That lyric is easily my least favorite on the entire album. I cringed so much when I first heard it.

If it makes you feel any better, Skiba changes "God" to "Mark" when he sings Not Now. And Mark sings that line in Kings Of The Weekend. So he plays on a song that says that? Big deal. You can stick to your beliefs and be accepting of people that have different ones. If playing on that song causes people to abandon Skiba, that's kind of ridiculous. It's not like he joined a christian rock band.

There's far worse Skeebs could be doing. I'm happy for the guy on all fronts. Don't really see a problem w/ one line.

Also, the words "thank god" are more of an expression of general thankfulness rather than literally thanking God. I've heard plenty of non-believers use "Thank God," or "I swear to God" on a regular basis. They're just expressions that are ingrained in our language at this point.

Yeah... weird post lol. Personally, I am mortified to associate Alkaline Trio, a group of adults singing for adults, w/ blink-182, who is basically a punk band for children singing about God, who is most certainly NOT a punk!

Mods, please permaban, this is reprehensible.

Ah, now I wasn't suggesting that people abandon Skiba - he's far too interesting a songwriter to ever consider doing that. I was just pointing out that he finds himself in a curious situation that doesn't quite gel with all what went before.

He's probably just in it for the cash though. There's a funny part of that Vice documentary on Fat Mike's musical where Fat Mike talks about Skiba going off to join Blink - he seems less than impressed :D .

What was reprehensible? Bringing up Blink?

I generally like Fat Mike but he is one of those people who needs to go to dickish extremes or just generally be an asshole to prove how punk he is. I've never given a shit what he thinks of blink. I'm totally happy for Matt being in it. Even if Fat Mike is too cool for blink.

Also he genuinely enjoys blink and has been friends with Mark and Travis for 15 years so to say he's just in it for the money is quite honestly horseshit.

I disagree. Your quotation is incomplete.

'Catastrophe' finishes the line and contextualises the 'god bless'. Yes, they request god's blessing, but only where it comes to 'catastrophe'. This is more-or-less taking god's name in vain (using it irreverently anyway), and not the sort of celebratory angle the Blink lyric takes.
