Vase is a professional screenwriter, he clearly is the be all end all on movie critique

    Jk fuck that

TLJ is great and acting like it’s some crime against screenwriting is an absolute joke and is the most hyperbolic shit I’ve seen in this thread, and I’ve seen a lot

Yeah, I just don’t understand the takes that say it’s some blight upon cinema

    I am a professional screenwriter.

    That's not sarcasm.

The Last Jedi is a structural mess and clearly has the signs of too many cooks in the kitchen. It's a prime example of studio influence versus artistic vision. The core conflict of the film, the chase, is flawed from the start and the amount of times the characters betray logic to satisfy an asinine story goal is ludicrous.

It's a visually appealing movie with great elements, but the executiont/overall package leaves a lot to be desired and culminates in a mess that made me want to laugh and roll my eyes more than anything else in the whole franchise.

I've been very interested in that show. The lead actress has been great in previous roles so maybe I should finally check it out.

Vase acting like a professional screenwriter didn't write The Last Jedi. I know he blocked me, but I'm just throwing that out there.

You def should. Aya Cash rules and just nails this role. I relate to her character a lot too. Show is great, more people should watch it.

its the biggest IP ever maybe

it opened with a yo mama joke and had a clothes iron spaceship fake out scene and Luke dusted off his shoulders a la Jay Z music video - people were supposed to get mad that was the point

what screenplays have you been involved in - legitimately curious I’m not tying to be a dick or anything at all

also agree with me that Insterstellar and Dark Knight Rises are the worst blockbuster screenplays of the last decade and I’ll be a fan of yours

I don't think you're being a dick at all. For a short time I got to work with Jane Startz Productions who did Indian in The Cupboard and Ella Enchanted. I didn't work on those films, just with the company that did. Mostly small scripts and consulting for projects. They worked with a lot of kids networks and movies, like Nickelodeon.

Unfortunately, life in LA, being super expensive and highly competitive just killed me so I bailed. So I guess it would better to say I used to work in the industry. I still have friends who work in the industry like on Disney Plus movies, but I am so far removed from that world and those people now that I only hear snippets of very interesting things every now and then. I did talk to someone who worked on Knives Out and said Rian Johnston is very kind! But that's literally probably the closest I could do to name dropping haha.

Honestly, I have a great deal of appreciation and respect for the people that work in the industry and have the drive to continue in that environment because it can be brutal and unrewarding for a long time. I am not the kind of person who was going to survive out there. I try to work on scripts and short films now, but I just feel so defeated and unimaginative when I compare myself to others that I saw and talked to. I kind of ruined my own career by letting the fear of not being good enough and being inferior to others get to me. You read so many scripts and see so much talent out there that you just get overwhelmed with a sense of dread and envy.

And The Dark Knight Rises is a weird movie that's about 40 minutes too long.
