It’s wild how self-referential this album is after they seemed to be stepping away from it on ABI. One of my favorite things about this band is the way they build their own musical and lyrical universe, so I’m super happy to discover what I’ve missed so far.

idk how but every song on this album is the best song on this album

also! “i’d like to meet myself and swap clothes” reminds me a ton of the sincerity is scary video and that makes me super happy and just wanted to mention it.

Speaking of them being self referential, I love the “Frail State of Mind” lyric “I always get this way sometimes.” Voicing the sentiment of “I Always Wanna Die (Sometimes)” over a song that musically reminds me of “Too Time” is really perfect.

Speaking of best 1975 songs, I think I’ve already mentioned this in this fast moving thread, but “Frail State” is behind only “Sincerity is Scary” for me right now.

If I forced myself to make, like, a top 10 or something, the top slots would probably be pretty well populated by these last couple "Music for Cars" albums. My favorite song outside of these albums, though, is probably "Change of Heart"?

I honestly probably wouldn't put anything pre-ILIWYS in my top 10, lol. Lots of good songs I like putting into my work shuffle, but "Love Me" was the first song I heard of theirs that I specifically vibed with. I don't think I could really pick a real personal favorite from that earlier material.

The rapping in nothing revealed almost ruins the song for me but the rest of it is so good.

The “rap” is just a flow like menswear imo

I'm like 5 listens in and I think the only thing that bugs me is Streaming? I realize it's only 1:30 but a break right after The End (which is fantastic) drags a bit. FSOM right into Birthday Party would flow much nicer IMO.

The record as a whole wasn't as immediate as ABIIOR for me but is definitely growing on me with each listen.

Streaming into TBP is one of the most cohesive parts about this album tho!!

I agree! I just think it feels like a lot of starting and stopping in the beginning of the record

  22. if "The 1975" is their playstation start-up sound or whatever maybe the stopping and starting is like when you turn on your console and it needs an update lol

really can’t stress enough that any complaints I could make about the sequencing are completely made up for by the fact that I have no complaints about any of the actual tracks here. I love every second of this record.
