Every artist or band as huge as U2 - of which there are very few - is subject to hate and ridicule. We talked about this with Madonna too, who is one of those artists.

Personally I don’t really like or dislike U2. They have always gotten a lot of airplay here and they were never close to being the most annoying thing on the radio.

I am not gonna be hyperbolic and "die on this hill", but can someone explain what I am missing about Radiohead? I know that the new Hayley Williams gets a lot of comparisons to them and that The 1975's last record sparked a lot of comparisons, but every time I start one of their records - I just don't get it at all.

theyre probably the ultimate grower band for me. I first heard ok computer and I liked maybe 3 songs on it. now they’re my favorite band ever.

If we’re talking unpopular Radiohead opinions then I’ll say I would pick any of their albums Kid A-onward over OK Computer

They're just a fantastic band that have worked with a lot of different sounds and influenced a ton of music. They're written some of the most interesting and well crafted songs ever imo. They also ride the line of being accessible and experimental perfectly.

not getting the appeal of Radiohead is such a foreign concept to me that I never know how to answer that question

    listen to Kid A

Maybe some day I will agree with you guys. I'll keep trying, but I really just find a lot of their music inaccessible. I also don't get his falsetto that is so revered.

Yorke’s voice is definitely not the draw of Radiohead lol

here's a few of my favourites to try out, they do a lot of different stuff. His falsetto is like sweet sweet candy for me though so maybe they're just not for you, ha.

also idk if it's a good one to get someone into the band but this is my favourite by them and one of my top 10 of all time. such an emotionally heavy song for me.

Yorke’s voice toes the line of soothing, haunting, and paranoid absolutely perfectly

I don't even know where to start with Radiohead. I intentionally listened to Ok Computer a few years ago and thought it was pretty good, but that's it. They seem to be the ultimate grower of a band and that takes patience I don't have lol

But he can’t get into them so I don’t think listening to Kid A will change that. In rainbows is much more accessible imo.

you're right. really just stating my preference in terms of their albums. I think it's a masterpiece but In Rainbows is definitely more accessible and is a masterpiece in its own right

I think the acclaim surrounding Radiohead often makes them seem more daunting or complicated than they are to people who aren’t big on them. Yes they experiment heavily and Yorke/Greenwood are musical savants and their music may technically be “complex,” but from a listener perspective the majority of Radiohead’s music is very accessible and pretty straightforward. They use pop song structures and write catchy hooks and have groovy bass lines. You’re fucking it up for yourself if you overthink it and constantly question why so many people call them the best band, just put on songs like “Lotus Flower” or “Weird Fishes” or “There, There” or “The National Anthem” and just vibe with it bro

Can’t recommend these sessions enough to get a sense of their chemistry and how well they play off each other

Colin, EOB and Phil are the main draws to Radiohead. i could listen to the three of them as an instrumental band and they'd be one of my favorite bands. adding thom and Jonny only cements it. anytime a band is seen as a top ___ or whatever band, they will inevitably be seen as "overrated," which is fair.

but I don't really have the energy to convince people to listen to them anymore lol. it's exhausting. if you wanna miss out on one of the best bands of our lifetimes, that's fine, just don't ask people to persuade you into liking them.

I don’t get the 1975. Every time they release a new album, I’ll give it a listen to see if anything clicks, but nothing happens. They’re just... eh. If I was younger, I probably would have hated them. But as a lazy 37 year old idiot, I just don’t have the effort anymore haha. They’re just one of those bands that evoke no opinion.

Yeah I think we’ve had this convo in here before but I don’t really get it either. Seems like music that fits in perfectly at H&M or Forever 21

I feel about them the way a lot of people feel about Radiohead. But I get it, its not for everyone. Plenty of people find Matty annoying, but I really love his antics and how it is reflected in his music.
