I’m that case, I’ve engaged with the album multiple times and dislike parts of it so I’m going to engage with parts of the album in future.

I’ve always been a person that, even if a song isn’t my favorite on an album, I keep it there and listen to it. Example, I am a BMM truther and overall don’t really like the song- but ABI is one of the top albums of all time for me- so when I go to put the album on with intention to listen to the album, I don’t skip it or delete it. So, with this album, the times I have gone in with the mindset of listening to the album, I don’t skip anything. I always start with the Greta intro. I like to experience it exactly as it was made. If I really grossly don’t like a few songs, then I don’t listen to the album. I might put on a single every now and then, but overall it mostly gets avoided.

sometimes I want to listen to single songs or a group of songs, but even then I don’t skip anything. Like I really love Tonight and Too Shy, but I don’t skip Shiny Collarbone to get there. Same reason I don’t like listening to playlists, even though I’m good at making them.

And despite the yammering about people being triggered and shit, nobody is telling you that you shouldn’t do that ;)

Can you please point out where I said anything about “triggering”? I don’t appreciate you putting words in my mouth, it’s incredibly rude.

People in here are really saying you can’t unlock “Guys” until you listen to the 21 songs before it.

Jesus, how are we still having this discussion? Why engage with the whole work of art if you don't like certain parts of said art?

Of course I have, but I much prefer to listen to an album and shape my view of an artist that way. I approach music differently when I listen to single tracks versus an album; to be an artist I truly love, you have to be able to craft something that works as a whole. (Of course, I'm sure there are exceptions.) A quick example off the top of my head would be that I could happily fool myself into thinking I loved The Weeknd if I only listened to his singles, but in reality, I don't think he's crafted a consistent enough album to be considered truly great.

This is just how I consume music, obviously.

Cause if I like the work as a whole, then I will come around to the songs that are not my favorite on the few listens I have had with this.

    I agree completely with this.

    what a waste of wood

Probably why it's one of my favorites on here. Bit of Strafford APTS in "Playing On My Mind" as well

I am calm lol. Why reference a poster I haven’t engaged with while replying to me? Your post is insinuating I agree with him.

Imo, everyone can enjoy and perceive art however they want to and that’s one of its wonders. There’s nothing wrong with either approach.

I need to listen to this album at least 5 times today. I love the entire thing start to finish. So many unexpected favorites.

I can’t believe how happy this band makes me. Just when I really fucking need it too.

Wow, I love all their previous work, but this is not for me at all. Really like some of the singles but that's it.

I didn’t know any of this about the song until after I listened to it. Really sweet.

    "I'll chew on a dog!"

Every 1975 album I think "This has some of their best songs on it" but also "This has some of their worst songs on it". I always find songs to spin endlessly and tracks I skip every time on each of their albums. Art, man.

Thanks for the reply. I broadly agree and as I said I haven’t done anything like this in a long time and I very rarely don’t listen to full albums. If I take this album as a whole, I don’t like it. It has a lot of great songs but doesn’t capture my attention for the full running time, so you could say I’m not a fan of this album. However a few changes have immeasurably improved my listening experience.

Are you asking because of the quotes from Matty on that song on Spotify? I was confused about that too. The only thing I can find is a mention of “somebody else” later on in the track.
