    Regular

The part of Having No Head when it switches up the filter and feels like it's coming from the basement, is that considered a nod to "deep house"? Genuinely don't know, but it's sick.

I just love Roadkill so much and I don't like this type of song AT ALL lol

I mean, I know his influences, and i'm sure it's been discussed here...but People is supposed to be straight up be reflective of Vices right?

I don’t know but that’s all I hear when I listen to it.

  5. tbh I think "Be My Mistake" is more egregious a flow-killer than "The End" or "Streaming"

personally I think I want "People" to move into "Frail State of Mind" and I think the hinge of "The End" helps emphasize the grand distance between the two while also calling back to the EPs. for that reason, I'm glad it's there

    beautiful and chequered, the end

I love Music for Cars instrumental cause it helps calm you down/prepare you for the more introverted journey that the album is. Greta intro into people opens the album with a burst of urgency which helps place this album into a very specific time period (2019/2020) , but then immediately shifts focus as if to tell you, that this album compared to lets say ABI is more concerned with the personal, rather than one that tackles the problems of the world.

If this record makes you want to listen to Steve Reich, it’s got nothing to do with the music on it.

I mean if it only took a year to make 22 songs, 11 should only take them another 6 months and with all this quarantine time...lol WHERE YOU AT JAMIE!?

Might not be a while before we hear from them again after this, so it would have been absolutely killer to have this one be the absolute world eater of records.

I don't have a problem with Be My Mistake. Inside Your Mind and Heads & Bodies are still pretty boring but I've grown to enjoy them in the context of the album

    EDIT:
Actually skimming through all three I like them all nevermind.

it’s an influence that matty has dropped repeatedly and he even did an interview/conversation with the guy, the record cycle is general has made me want to explore these influences. how would I know what elements are drawing from Reich (if any) if i’ve never heard him before admittedly? feels like an opportunity to condescend but w/e

  13. the flow is certainly all over the place and sometimes it works and sometimes it's hard to find the connecting lines but I'm on a 6th listen now and it never loses me and even when it's strange, I think it's fun and exciting.

The robot song stinks. Be My Mistake is just like, a slow acoustic pop song? I don't get the hate.

Yeah I really don’t get the hate for Be My Mistake. jc2005 is probably the closest on here, I much prefer Be My Mistake.

Sorry if that came off wrong. I’m not trying to condescend. It’s great to explore influences and one of the great things about this band is how forthcoming they are with their influences. I’m just saying that there is no musical reason this should point you to Reich. It’s all extramusical and contextual based on stuff Matty has said in interviews.

I might come around to the Disney orchestration on “The End” as I hear more of the references or get a better understanding of its role, but there isn’t much connection between what they did here and Reich’s work. They both like loops and conceptual art, that’s about it. And I think that’s why Jason might have been annoyed by this whole conversation, because it’s like someone hearing the guitar riff in “Love Me” and saying they want to learn more about The Beatles.

Nahhhhhhhhh coming from someone who hated JC from the moment I saw drunk Matty preview it on his IG, I greatly prefer that song with all the news bells and whistles than Be My Mistake. Having said that, I don't personally think BMM is as cringe as others do (anymore than many of their slower tracks, that is).

Surrounded By Heads and Bodies is like a top 3 song they've ever done, without checking

  24. don't get me wrong I enjoy "Be My Mistake" but I do think it's one of their weaker songs and I feel like it just is not interesting or exciting enough coming off of "How To Draw" and that to me has always been a little jarring

Yeah I’m the opposite of this take haha. I really like 2005. That and She Lays Down are probably my favorite of their acoustic ones
