What Should I Say gives me major 'Assume Form' James Blake vibes but then explodes into that melted pop hook and it's perfect

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

been listening to it with this in mind and I agree/can't stop thinking about "Yeah I Know" as their "Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors"

I agree with most of this although I think I like it a bit more than you overall. You hit the nail on the head about them being weirder with the lack of catchiness instead of the variety of sound which goes against what I think they do best.

I find pretty much everything here compelling and extremely evocative, all in pretty distinct ways. this is such a dense, dense record and I can’t wait to pick it apart over time like I have their others and see how my feelings shift. their album cycles are fucking agonizing at times, sure, but ultimately I always feel like being such a fan of this band is rewarding and incredibly exciting.

Ok, after a couple listens I know this won’t ever top ILIWYS for me, but I’d need more time to figure out exactly where it sits in their discography. It’s not at all what I expected. It does get a little repetitive in my opinion, and there are some songs especially toward the end that don’t really hit for me. The highs (like M&YTS, People, and Then Because She Goes) are some of my favorite things they’ve ever done, though.

The biggest thing I CAN confidently say is that, whenever it’s safe to see people again, Nothing Revealed / Everything Denied will be the first song on my playlist for every get together for the next 5 years. That song has laid back house party written all over it.

Matty commented on the leak megapost in the subreddit last night.

"From what I can see you guys really get the record and that makes me really happy. I hope it brings you as much joy as it has brought us whilst making it x"

I feel like he has a lot less to say on this album than on the previous two, despite the longer tracklist.

This was the best interview of ABI. Very exciting that they’re doing it again.

I don't really love People, but I wish more of this album was as "out there" in comparison to their past stuff as that is.

Yeah I was expecting more different genre breaking songs from them on this after ‘People’. It just feels a bit out of place compared to the rest of the album.

kinda love that Matty fucks off a little on this record. I think he’s saying plenty, but I think he’s letting the music do a little more of the talking this time around.

Finished a full second listen. Yeah, I just think I'm not into this. "What should I say" is the best song on here though, that's great. It just seems to me a 45-50 minute album stretched out to 80.

Well it’s suppose to be a ‘night time’ record so it makes complete sense for it to have less vocals in my opinion. Maybe it’s a bit too play out though.

“What Should I Say” and “Too Shy” are my two standout tracks - both are executed so brilliantly and expertly.

The record as a whole just brings me pure joy. As I was listening, I found myself having a physical reaction, a genuinely physical reaction as each new track had its “holy shit, I’m in love with this” moment. It’s not often you listen to something and you swell and tense up with excitement and happiness knowing that these songs exist. What a wonderful band.

  19. I think they get close to it on the electronic elements, which is where they shine, but then it becomes repetitive, but some of the other swings don’t work at all. The orchestral arrangements are just too, for lack of a better word, juvenile. And they’re very front and center, especially in that first 5 song run, and that’s a problem.

The first two songs released from this album had such a “meet the moment” and “say something” feel to it, it’s disappointing to me they didn’t follow through with more of that. The meandering and directionless portions stand out in contrast. Not a bad record by any means, just one where I see the flaws right away, and that’s not what usually happens with this band for me. (This is easily their best set of slow and more stripped back songs though.)

I don't love albums that I have to skip tracks on, even if there's great songs, but this one is definitely one of those albums. I already know I'm gonna start this on track 3-4 on repeat listens lol

Definitely going to land somewhere close to Jason on this although I’m always unsure of new 1975 records at first. I like all of the singles, and some of the electronic tracks here are the best stab at that sound they’ve done, but the length and pacing just don’t make much sense to me and unfortunately in this case it really hurts the album for me. I’m not one to complain about instrumentals, but the ones at the beginning of the album really are just there and I feel like even some of the electronic tracks could’ve served the same purpose more effectively.

Happy to have new 1975 songs and there are a lot of great ones on here but I’m gonna be skipping through this thing.

This is only seven minutes longer than ILIWYS. Feels shorter to me.
