"A Change of Heart" --> "Sincerity is Scary" --> "The Birthday Party" imo

Matty in his storytelling bag on a song in the first 3rd of each album

I agree with you, but the interesting thing about this is that a 22 song album forces your to really think about your discourse in the current internet landscape. I adore all of the tracks, and feel a specific way ya about the songs, but knowing the specificity of my attachment and searching for meaning in the songs and etc, I have to come to terms with the fact that others won’t have the same reaction

  5. what I said:
“it’s not as interesting to me as albums from Dua, Lauv, Charli, Rina, and quite a few others so far this year.”

‘Cause it’s my opinion on what is interesting this year in the pop realm.

oh i mean i get it!!! but i also think this record is like... wildly special, in a way that’s distinct from how their previous records were special, and i don’t want people to miss that. this is the fight i fight every way

  7. Yeah but you say this about virtually every album in every album thread :crylaugh:

(and I’ll also argue it’s distinctly not)

This does confirm that I need to stop listening to the new Phoebe Bridgers songs so I can preserve them for the album.

I love @unbornwhiskey 's unfettered enthusiasm in album threads

sure it may seem hyperbolic but that's the fun of first / early listens imo !

I love their taste tho too ofc lol

so many obvious nods to dance tradition, bits of classic UKG and shades of Hopkins/Burial/Blake in the sound design with an obvious embrace of modern house tropes alongside twangy tearjerkers

    Isn't 'special' all pretty relative?

I’m in agreement with @Jason Tate here. This record isn’t bad by any means but I do think it’s being elevated over other (great) pop and rock records this year for some reason, which is a bit unfortunate.
