To me it's like the 1-2 punch of Greta's speech and People is almost like a warm-up to the album itself. They are two things the rest of the album is very much not (political/crunchy guitar-fueled), and I think the band wanted them at the front to be a mini rallying cry EP of sorts before the actual album. Then The End comes in almost as a reset button to transition into the "real" album — I think there's a reason this track was given the "(Music for Cars)" label — with "Streaming" simply being an extended intro to "The Birthday Party." Then the rest of the album is fairly cohesive.

    Got a light?

Came here to say something like this, there is so much going on throughout this album, all I can say is some of it is undeniably catchy but otherwise I have no clue what to think other than there being some extremely unnecessary interludes and stuff that feels like it doesn't make the album more cohesive or tie anything together but I acknowledge there is so much variance I could be wrong after it fully sinks in

"money" is also maybe the only 1975 track that could be on any of their albums, ok fine "menswear" too

Relistening to this reminds me why I never really could buy into the hype for this band fully. Was so confused that they were being treated as the second coming off of this tape. It really wasn't until A Brief Inquiry... that it "clicked". There are absolutely some songs I overlooked on the S/T. Heart Out is dope. Settle Down still rules. The EP singles are all good.

  20. sneakily one of their catchiest songs:

'I think you're trying too hard with your lungs in tar
And your kitchen full of pop stars'
And I've been thinking lots about your mouth
A conversation superseded by the way he talks
I'd be an anchor but I'm scared you'd drown
    It's safer on the ground

I still like the debut a decent amount but there’s a HUGE gap for me between that album and their others

For me it's hard to top I like it when you sleep. It's always been easy for me to pick favorites off a first listen. First time I listened to Halsey's new album I knew it was my favorite even after seeing her live multiple times and listening to all of her material. Been following The 1975 since the EPs and flew across the world to see them in London. They're a top 3 band for me. This did not hit me like the past 3 albums on first listen.

Honestly, if it wasn't for Mike Crossey's production, that album would be much further behind. Its currently just slightly behind the others right now.

SOrry for not wanting to dig through the last 20 pages, but Im not loving how they changed "If youre too shy" from the video/single. the production is way different. I thought the original production was incredible. this just feels a little too busy TBH
