Robot is the absolute worst

 

I love Robot so much.

 

I want to hear What Should I Say and Bagsy Not In Net the most. I don’t recall seeing any description of those two anywhere.

 

I personally wouldn't do it, I prefer Surrounded to Be My Mistake too.

I don't think it'll feel like a playlist either. In general The 1975 haven't dropped the ball with sequencing and I've liked every single from Notes so far so I'm going in with high hopes.

 

Agreed that Be My Mistake should neither exist nor be on the album. A very tone deaf song to release in 2018

 

The 1975 - ft. Greta. Abstract, electronic soundscape + spoken word polemic about the environment.
People - Angsty, thrashy punk rock.
The End - short, orchestral instrumental.
Frail State of Mind - dark, glitchy, beat driven pop.
Streaming - ambient interlude
The Birthday Party - meandering alt-Country.
Yeah I Know - Glitchy Electronic / Largely instrumental
Then Because She Goes - Early 90s alt-rock/shoegazing
JC2005 - stripped back indie-folk
Roadkill - Rambling Alt-Country
Me and You Together Song - Late 90s melodic rock / pop punk.
I Think There’s Something You Should Know - ‘Sad banger’ / House

Really interested in hearing the duet with his dad. One song (I can't remember which one) was compared to Billy Joel.

 

Wait id surrounded by the song I call “Angela” cause if so it might by one of my absolute favorite songs by them. The melody hits me hard

God damn, removing Surrounded By Heads And Bodies? Fuckin' whack, that song is fantastic

 

I won't believe Bagsy Not In Net is a real song until I hear it.

I wrote my thoughts down about Be My Mistake in the ABIIOR thread, but I still feel the same way about it so I’ll reiterate here:


“As for “Be My Mistake”, I agree with all the criticisms. I like the instrumentation, but the lyrics are a bit disappointing because of what Matty said about the song in that Pitchfork article:

I really wish the lyrics had been more geared toward that feeling. I’ve been there and it’s fucking awful. That moment you come out the other side of it only to look around and realize who you’ve pushed away in the process of whatever it was you thought was worth chasing, to realize what you’ve missed in the process, to see the photos of people and places you missed during that period, is gut wrenching. If the lyrics expressed that then it would probably be one of my favorite pieces here.”

I’d also add to the above thought that in relation to that, the line that has always stood out to me is

“I don’t want to hug
I just want to sleep”

because that’s exactly how it felt during that extended, dark period of loneliness and grief. Kind of dovetails fittingly into the closing track’s summation (the whole album is dealing with that theme actually) that the feeling never really goes away. Once you experience that level of pain, you take it with you for the rest of your life. There is no going back but you do what you can to push through, carry on, and lean on the love and support of those around you. I always wanna die...sometimes.

But yeah, I do wish some of the other lyrics to “Be My Mistake” resonated a little more and dealt more specifically with his quote above.
