This is real good so far. I personally wasn’t a huge fan of the longer songs of his previous material. Not all of them tho. Also glad I didn’t listen to any of the singles. Can’t Cool Me Down is great. Annnnd last thing I didn’t think Hollywood was as bad as people made it seem.

Alright everyone, I'm now ok with the fact that I bought the vinyl version.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: There are two versions of this album — one for the physical release, which has a different tracklist and songs than the digital release. Tell me about that.

WILL TOLEDO: You have to deliver the vinyl “x” amount of months before the album comes out. And that was really difficult for me as someone who usually puts the finishing touches on the album and drops it the same day or a day later. That’s what I was doing before I signed to Matador, so it was hard to deliver it and then sit for months and months and think about the ways you could’ve done it better.

So I wanted, on this record, to work to the vinyl and deliver it, and then keep it open until we really had to deliver for the streaming version. It kind of went beyond that at the end where after the vinyl, once we were thinking about it in a different light, different ideas for songs came into play and I ended up reworking some, re-writing some, and then remixing other songs. So the physical format and the streaming format are different because they reflect different points in the creative process of the record.

of course I like "hollywood" within context of the album - liking this as a whole more than I was anticipating honestly

Not a fan of this at all. Can't Cool Me Down lacks the punch that the live version had. Hollywood is just as cringe-worthy in the context of the album. A couple of songs I might come back to but overall very meh.

Haven't really ever gotten into CSH before but figured I'd give this album a spin to check it out on a light release day, really loving it so far.

This is great. And I agree with the takes that it’s destined to be an underrated gem.

It’s actually pretty similar to the way I feel about The New Abnormal. I scratch my head because there are songs on this record that are light years better than what a lot of bands put out that get those safe reviews. I like bands trying new shit and this is good. “There Must Be More Than Blood” is one of the best CSH songs.

I feel like no matter what Will put out after Teens was going to be considered a "let down" initially IMO.

That said, I like this a lot and will be playing it regularly.

I like the vinyl version of Hollywood with less Charlie Kelly voice is better I think. I've had the "you can't disengage..." Verse stuck in my head for a few days though.

Don’t like this at all. Almost everything feels unfinished.

Liked it a lot more on my first full listen than I thought I would. "Hollywood" is still trash and there are a couple throwaway tracks but they do not take away from some jaw-dropping moments on this one. Kind of makes me excited to see what he can do with the next album after some refinement in songwriting and examining his newly adopted approach.
