they were extremely unpopular in the era. their popularity now is largely due to ozzy in the last 20 years.

I have many of these opinions about artists/albums people on here likely don't care much about, and damn it I've wanted to rant about them forever and I'm bored:

    - John Fogerty's Eye of the Zombie is a an absolute blast. Its reputation is pure outdated '80s hate.

    - The Capitol versions of the songs on Katrina and the Waves are SO much better than the early independent recordings of them. Their collapse as a commercial entity wasn't because of the "sell out", but because they stopped letting Kimberly Rew write the bulk of the damn songs.

    - The Commodores' best album is Midnight Magic and the only reason consensus trends toward the s/t is because it's been readily in print and has "Brick House", which is just lazy.

    - Octave by The Moody Blues stands right up with their "classic 7", and actually I'd argue it's better than Days of Future Passed, In Search of the Lost Chord and Every Good Boy Deserves Favour as a full album.

    - The conservatism of the country establishment was responsible for the decline in Mary Chapin Carpenter's commercial fortunes, not a decline in quality. God forbid she embrace some R&B influences and try to be a little upbeat on A Place in the World, you miserable traditionalists.

    - Sammy Davis Jr.'s great ability to entertain and be funny really blinds people to his pure talent as a singer. Sammy Davis, Jr. Sings and Laurindo Almeida Plays is as credible a vocal jazz album as the best of Dinah Washington and Sarah Vaughan. He wasn't the artist that Frank was, but he was every bit the singer.

    - I get why Harry Belafonte's post-'62 catalog is considered lesser. There were a lot of shameless pop moves and a definite lack of vitality at times, and the best albums were collabs. But that final album Paradise in Gazankulu is just as passionate and politically engaged as anything in his catalog.

    - I love everything Peter, Paul, and Mary ever did, but their folk purity on the first six albums could make them a bit indistinguishable from each other. The added instrumentation on Album 1700 and The Peter, Paul, and Mary Album wasn't a sell-out. It was a crucial progression so they didn't keep rehashing the same record for their whole careers.

    - "Mistral Wind" and "Love Alive" are the two best Heart songs, even better than all their (awesome) hits.

    - The only thing that ever made Whitesnake worthwhile was John Sykes. They were journeymen before and after he was in the band, but the Blue Murder album he's on fucking rocks. He was the crucial element.

Abba is the only band I have actively disliked for pretty much my entire life. My mum and sister used to play them all the time when I lived at home when they knew I didn’t like them and it strengthened my dislike.

A truly awful band that makes the worst type of music.

ABBA: The Album is a legitimate classic record. I never liked them when all I'd heard were singles. But the albums are so incredibly produced.

The best thing that came out of that Classic Artist of the Week thing we did for awhile was convincing a few people to give that album a shot.

Is your family willing to adopt me?

Abba have always struck me as a band for people who don’t listen to music. Like Ed Sheeran.

I can get if you straight up don’t like disco/pop in general but ABBA is so uplifting and positive and dance-y that it never fails to put me in a good mood.

ABBA are great because they have multiple supper poppy disco songs that are utterly heartbreaking, read the lyrics to Super Trouper SOS and Lay All Your Love On Me

Very easy to compare two incredibly irritating musical acts. Sure, Sheeran is a little more vapid, but abba do annoying a lot better.

I don't think I've ever listened to ABBA on purpose, but I also don't think I've ever been mad about hearing one of their songs. So, sure, put me in the "ABBA is good, actually" column.
