  1. It happens more and more in pop music and it irks me. What I find weird is artists pretending these songs didn't fit their records when in reality it just comes down to them flopping and their labels sending them back to the drawing boards. No wonder some albums get delayed for years. That narrative just doesn't work in an age of transparency. :/

  2. I tried expressing this in the Hundredth thread sometime last year and it felt like I was completely alone in thinking that way haha. I can handle long rollouts, singles with unannounced albums, etc. but it’s really a shame when a great track or two aren’t included within any full album effort, since full albums are how a lot of music fans consume anyway

I listen to the Hundredth singles all the time. They’re in a collection on Spotify anyways. It’s basically an EP.

  4. Well those singles are also the only songs the band has released in nearly the last three years, so of course you’re listening to them haha. I am too! But once a full album drops I don’t see myself reaching for singles anywhere near as much as a I would complete record. It’s not a big deal, I just hope a couple of them make the album

Too many songs about wizards, not enough songs about rock and roll.

Yup I love Rammstein (another showy bombastic band) and consider them a "guilty pleasure" to an extent I guess?

On the other end of the spectrum is AC/DC and their career writing songs about ONLY rock and roll.

An exceptional amount of songs with "balls" in the title, have no choice but to respect that

I have a Rush t shirt and it's by far the shirt I get the most comments about, 100% from thrilled middle aged dudes. Every single time it goes: "Love the shirt, I saw 'em on tha Moving Pictures tour, Signals tour, and the Snakes & Arrows tour. What's your favorite record?"

The Rush thing; "nerd" shit is the mainstream now so it's easy to forget nerdy stuff was genuinely uncool in 70's and 80's

I’ve seen them three times, twice on the Snakes and Arrows tour and once on the Clockwork Angels tour. On the train back from the Clockwork Angels show my friend and I wound up talking to a couple of 50 something dudes who were so excited to see younger people (we were 19 at the time) at a Rush show. Chatted about our favorite albums and shows we’ve seen the whole ride back, it was a cool moment.

I bought a shirt in '02 but that shit hasn't fit for 16 years. Which is probably for the best cause they'd probably bug out when I say the best Rush album is Hold Your Fire.

Best part of seeing Rush live as a 15-year-old recent fan of the band:

Asking my buddy next to me what the instrumental they were playing was called and having a joyful Canadian man turn back to us with metal horns and yell "Y-Y-Zed"

Save one or two artists, this list was sponsored by the year 1989.

Obligatory disclosure that Gene's a scumbag, but those dudes rocked on their last tour. 70 years old and flying over the crowd. Never seen anything like it.

i always felt like, as much as i love them (they’re my favorite band ever), black sabbath was the most “uncool” band of that era.
