I misread this as you saying you shamelessly enjoy not just Oasis but also two other bands I had never heard of called Get On Board and Get Fucked, Wankers and I was very intrigued for a moment by that last one

  4. Get Fucked, Wankers was the original pitch for The 1975

I feel like ELO is super underrated. Maybe I’m wrong though.

I didn’t realize people had strong enough opinions of America one way or the other. The country, on the other hand...

    Preach.

They were one of those bands where critics turned their noses up during their own time, but people love so many songs that the critics have kind of lost the war over time.

I honestly consider A New World Record as good a pop album as there is in the 70s.

Homecoming is an all-timer for me. And the debut and Hearts are excellent. Very underrated band, imo.

I really like the few songs I’ve heard by them but never dove in further, I’ll have to give them a listen!

Every record with the original three songwriters (Beckley, Bunnell, and Peak) is worth the listen, but Homecoming is their best. They really developed a full-band sound and hadn't leaned as hard toward smoother soft-rock touches yet.

    My favorite song of theirs:

Honestly, I credit a HUGE part of their mainstream classic rock acceptance with Guitar Hero/Rock Band. I saw them on the Vapor Trails tour in '02 and no joke so many 40 year old men came up to me and my friend and told me how wonderful it was to have teenagers at the show and how rare it was.

And they hardly every played any Rush on the Boston classic rock stations. Maaaaybe an occasional "Spirit of Radio" or "Tom Sawyer" but very infrequently.

Then everyone got real familiar with "YYZ" on Rock Band and all of a sudden they were getting requested all the time and the pre-teen classic rock fans at the camp I worked at knew their name.

I agree and also wonder how many people checked them out after seeing “I Love You, Man”.

They kinda touch on it in their documentary (which is really good and is on Netflix) that they were always considered a very "dorky" band compared to the other big bands at the time. They opened for Kiss and Gene Simmons says after the show they would just go back to their hotel room and read books.

I'd agree with this. I don't feel guilty about liking things other people think are shit, I feel guilty when I think it's shit and I still enjoy it. :crylaugh:

Not sure if this is exactly unpopular but I just said it in another thread and it made me think of this one, but I absolutely hate when bands/artists release loose tracks that don't make it on any albums. I'm always way less likely to return to those songs

Right? In what universe do people feel guilty for liking ABBA?!

honestly i feel like big showy bombastic bands like Kiss are more likely to be guilty pleasures, which isn’t a thing, than “dorky” bands like Rush
