Sum 41 was always kind of a "singles band" for me. They had some bangers for sure, but as I whole, idk it just never really clicked I guess...

as a Sum 41 fan, I'd say about 75% of their singles are their worst songs

Sum 41 formed about 5 minutes from where I live, so they were a huge part of my teenage years growing up. Used to go see them play super tiny clubs and knew it was only a matter of time before they blew up, was a fun thing to watch materialize.

Also, if you lived in Canada, you’d have heard every single of theirs about a thousand times. Unavoidable.

I legit can't even remember what it felt like to be apologetic for or insecure about my music tastes. I know once upon a time I was. But I legit can't recall how it felt.

Same hat. I stopped giving a damn a long time ago - having said that, there are times where my own taste jolts me with the hyper-awareness of the corniness of something I'm listening to and it just makes me go "huh, so this is where we're at, is it?"

It's like the musical equivalent of getting a reality check by way of sitting on the floor of your kitchen at 3 AM eating a wedge of cheese in the darkness lit only by the dim bulb from your refrigerator, and the haunting knowledge that you don't feel the slightest bit bad about any of it.

Sum 41 are pretty great. One of the only bands from that era that are still going AND not putting out embarrassingly shit music like Good Charlotte.

All Killer and Chuck are fantastic albums.

I used to keep music I was “embarrassed” of to myself but nowadays I’m either showing it to friends to be like “isn’t this shit wild???” or just don’t give a damn to even try to force it on people.

I think becoming a Selena Gomez fan while she was still on Disney Channel (that first album she put out rules) was the final nail in that coffin of "guilty pleasure." Though, being a fan of Christian rock in high school while friends w/ scene kids who thought that stuff was corny certainly laid the groundwork for just not caring.

I feel like more than anything I just get tired of having to argue for things I like, so while I'm not embarrassed by the music I like I also just don't talk about some things as much because I don't care to have those conversations with people, just not worth the time/energy

Remember how much shit we took on ap.net for that Selena Gomez/Demi Lovato appreciation thread? Hell, even for the Taylor Swift thread up through the release of Red.

I'm very glad people have opened their minds...but I don't entirely forget, either.

I've basically just become very authoritative in my conversations about music, I find. People try to scoff at something I like, and when I don't budge and am like "Nah it's awesome" they never seem to know what to do about it so they just defer.

sometimes I hate how much my taste aligns w the white dudes in their 30s/40s demographic, makes me cringe a little. but I'm not actually embarrassed about anything I like. Pinkerton tests me though

I think people misuse the term.

I think it has validity as something you enjoy without thinking is very good. Like that Vin Diesel movie The Pacifier.

But if you think it's good and other people don't? Fuck that. No guilt.

if you're an adult and care that others dislike something you like then god help you lol

Adulthood is bullying others into liking what you like
