That guitar breakdown in Remember the Empire is so cool.

 

Suburba isn't quite as good as the albums it's sandwiched between, but let's be real, it's a pretty decent pop rock album as well.

I TOTALLY remember this lol. I was huge into HM magazine back in the day. I remember it used to be every month and then went bi monthly and lost interest as internet news/reviews came about and I didn’t listen to as much heavy music.

also I totally remember how they would do the one “big” interview with a secular artist and ask them about Jesus. One in particular l remember was Keith Buckley from ETID lol. I can’t remember what he said or anything, but I would love to go back and read it from my lens then as a teenagerish age kid with a smaller world view to now.

 

Here is a copy from Thrice on the cover. This a magazine was really huge for me when I was first into the Christian music scene. Just seeing the ads again is so awesome. Just wanting to go to cornerstone every year was a dream lol

HM Magazine, Issue #114 (July/August 2005)

 

Oh man, the letters at the beginning of this issue include a reference to the Purple Door festival, which I used to love going to. (Cornerstone was never even a thought to me, realistically, lol, as cool as it looked.) And, a letter where someone thought the Vheissu cover was a ouiji board... lol.

Can't remember what window of time I read HM Magazine, but I think I probably jumped in shortly after this? But yeah, it's cool to look at now. Maybe it's just the comic book reader in me, but part of me would like messing around w/ magazines again, lol. It's not what it once was, for obvious internet reasons, but I think it can still be something really cool if done well.

 

man, I loved HM.

still have a few copies left, including that P.O.D. issue, and I think the other is As I Lay Dying, might donate that one to my roommate who does collage art.

 

Late on the HOH talk, but man that band dropped off for me big time. I remember being there when they released CHW and loved Comfort Trap. Haven't heard that album in so long or really any of their albums, but I think The End is best. Their drummer was great too.

 

My friend showed me this song and wow that bridge is golden.

 

Oh man. I loved Purple Door. My wife went to Messiah College, so we went every year while she was there. They always had such great lineups.

 

I cannot wait to hear this!

 

What So and So Sez (what a terrible name for a monthly segment, looking back at it)

I remember my first issue having Living Sacrifice on the cover and it was probably from the late 90s/early 00s before they redesigned the magazine. I got rid of all my magazines when I moved a few years back but wish I would've saved them!

 

This album turns 10 on Monday!

I'm surprised they weren't bigger too - I listened to a few of their songs a couple weeks back and I was surprised how well they hold up. Hand Grenades has always been a favorite of mine.

 

HM was awesome. The only place I could find it was my local Christian bookstore. I would go there every month to get the newest issue, then drive across the street to Barnes and Noble to pick up a copy of AP, and just read about new music all weekend. Simpler times.

one of those HM’s first ad is for Floodgate/The Myriad. looking back, Floodgate had some of the best indie gems in the Christian scene. I remember getting a sampler with Number One Gun, Cool Hand Luke, and a few others.

The Myriad was a band with a lot of potential that was gone too soon.

 

Remember seeing Number One Gun open for Project 86 & liking them enough to buy both their album & a shirt. Not the most unique band or anything, but I liked them a lot for, like, two minutes. Pretty solid example of that era of, like, Tooth & Nail, etc. Good stuff from an era when like, I dunno, 93% of what I actively listened to was at least somewhat under the Christian rock umbrella.

Dang, what was the last "Christian rock" album I loved? Guess it depends on how you define "Christian," "rock," & "love," lol.

I just got word that my 17 year old pet passed away this morning. I was preparing for it and figured I would be gone when it happened (I’m stuck two hours away in an apartment doing school work thanks to covid-19), so I was able to tell her my goodbyes the last time I saw her, but it still hurts like no other.

If any of you could keep me in your prayers today I’d be entirely grateful.

They Myriad was awesome, and super nice dudes. I saw them open for The Beautiful Mistake once (odd pairing) and they put on a great show. I think one of their members passed away, and they called it quits after that.

Floodgate also had Forever Changed. What a great era for Christian music.

 

Oh damn, I forgot all about The Myriad! I saw them open for Eisley in like 2007? Definitely gonna spin that one tonight.

 

Damn, I feel old haha. I've had both albums on rotation the last few weeks, such a great band.

Similarly, I can't believe Tooth and Nail never signed 7-10 Split, because those guys would have fit perfectly and also would have been huge with the right label. Miss those guys.
