There have been plenty of great records out this year. It's the first day this damn thing is out and y'all are already comparing. I was exaggerating when I said AOTY a few pages back but it will probably make my top ten. THAT SAID, if you haven't heard a good 2020 album yet, that's embarrassing for you

I think there's a disconnect between what I said and what you're interpreting. I said this is the first "truly great" album of the year. I am not using those words lightly. This album has a weight and importance to it that no other album I have heard this year has. That does not mean I haven't heard a good album this year. That doesn't even mean this is my favorite release of the year, lol.

I can’t say I’m fully in love with this album but I’ve also listened to it three times today and can’t stop thinking about it. It’s really something.

Is Idler Wheel the best one of hers to go to next if I like this? I’ve been meaning to check it out for a while but never got around to it.

when the pawn will not seem nearly as radical as idler wheel or fetch the bolt cutters but it is the absolute gold standard of late-'90s studio production AND drumming

Update: I liked Idler Wheel. Probably a little more immediate than this one, but left me with that same feeling that there’s a lot to digest. Excited to keep digging into both.

Extraordinary Machine is also really good, and Tidal is a great album for snowy mornings

This is her best since When the Pawn... for sure. Very, very cool album.

That p4k review is floridly awful though. Record deserves better when people read past the score.

Don't bother. It's such faux-feminist drivel. Did you know "production, perfection, and polish" are patriarchal male qualities? Someone should tell the Stones.

Which is a disappointment, given that this album is vitally, powerfully feminist. Missed opportunity.

Definitely gonna be a candidate for AOTY. Fantastic

Fiona Apple is part of why I like Meg Myers so much. Definitely a clear influence in some of Meg's music

All her albums are great, but honestly Idler Wheel is my least favorite
