If it were me, I'd go to the marketplace and report my new income=$0. Much more likely I find a plan whose premiums are fully subsidized.

(I'd also apply for Medicaid if my state allowed for it considering my new income is now below the threshhold)

The one time I looked into COBRA for my family it was going to be INSANELY expensive. Like twice my mortgage. It was in no way even in the realm of a manageable number. It may well have not even have existed as an option for all of the help it would have been. It was about as helpful of an idea to keep my family insured as it would be to just buy a shitload of lottery tickets or go partake in a fucking bank heist.

Are they saying COBRA but free...??? Or even COBRA but radically less expensive...??? Or are they just saying give people the COBRA option...???

Pretty sure the language seems to be saying that they'd cover the cost difference for COBRA, AKA whatever the usual employer share of your health insurance is, which could be 0% or 100%?? I haven't seen anything specific on that. But maybe it's saying completely free?

David, do you believe that covering COBRA payments per AHIP’s request is the best that the Democrats can do? I really hope you don’t. This isn’t even a complaint about the plan itself, it’s a complaint about using this moment to offer as little as possible. If you don’t propose anything during *gestures broadly* when the fuck will you?

Again, if the goal is to get as many people covered as quickly as possible, simply giving people their old insurance back would work a lot quicker and easier than trying to build a brand new health care system, which would take months at a minimum to get off the ground.

A better way to do it would maybe to just make health care "Free" and then have the FedGov just give hospitals a ton of money every month to cover it but, I'm not sure what the logistics of that are either. If it's anything like what small businesses are going through with the loan bailout program...eh.

You sat here for 30 seconds and came up with a more ambitious and simpler-to-understand proposal than Democrats did. Democrats just threw out what the insurance industry asked for. I don’t understand why that doesn’t bother you.

  10. Are people just pretending Biden's medicare policy is his only policy? Someone is really is gonna argue Truman was more progressive? One of the more racist presidents we've had? In the replies we have people saying Nixon? smh.

Sure, let's ignore that Biden supports $15 minimum wage, free college tuition for most, forgiving student debt, moving to a 100% clean energy system, etc.

We all hope he will go even further on those things but I don't think any president in recent history has supported that

The last I saw, he doesn't yet support forgiving my student debt.

Fairly recent proposal. It's obviously not universal but p good.

Because even that plan can have potential serious drawbacks, I.e. hospitals don’t get enough to cover the cost of services rendered and end up having to shutter. And like I pointed out, the mechanism for running such a program could end up creating a big mess where hospitals don’t get funds on time like small businesses and people on UI are currently experiencing

Do y’all really think Biden is going to fight for student debt forgiveness if elected? ...lol.

Doesn’t forgive mine either. I go to a private university and to be frank it’s actually insulting to me that he would exclude them from the plan. A loan is a loan.

Regardless, my point was that no president has even had a student debt plan as far as his goes, even if I have big disagreements with it

Are you cool with the totality of the House Dems proposal simply being a regurgitation of what the healthcare industry asked for or no?

    Anyways...

Unemployment in PA question that y'all might not be able to answer.

I have basically two real part time jobs. The one I've been unable to work since mid March due to coronavirus. The other, a nonprofit's after school program that obviously hasn't met since mid March, I'm still on payroll for until the end of April.

Initially I didn't prioritize looking into unemployment for a variety of reasons, but I was thinking I'd finally get on that now, instead of putting stock in the stimulus and/or waiting for the nonprofit employment to end. But, I got confused on how to properly fill that information out...

Like, do I say I technically wasn't told I'd be brought back, even though I know this screen printing shop is gonna bring me back, 'cause I don't have a date to fill out when that is & don't have it in writing? Also, they ask for your other job's information, but ask it in a way that sounds like a second unemployment thing, when I am, until the end of this month, emplyed by that job.

Not sure how best to approach all that, lol.

Ok, yeah, this is the one from the other day I saw. If I'm reading this right, I wouldn't qualify because I don't fall under "borrowers who attended public colleges and universities, as well as historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) and private minority-serving institutions (MSIs)."

Unless it's people who fall under that OR "who earn an income of less than $125,000 per year," but when I read it the other day, it sounded like AND, not OR.

If their goal is to get people covered as quickly as possible, it doesn’t matter to me that the insurance industry wants it since it would be a temporary program.

what matters to me is getting people covered as quickly and easily as possible right now considering how many people are losing coverage. That should also include states directing people to apply for Medicaid imo
