I think stuff like this, while utterly disgusting and outraging, is really important to keep bringing up because this was not that long ago at all. We have made huge strides in recent years and while I’m so happy for that AND we have so much to go....I feel like there is a disconnect between how recently all of that was. People pretend we’ve been woke since ever and it’s like a very fresh thing

Oh yeah, that was a thing back in the day. At the time, I didn't realize how ridiculous that was or appreciate how well she handled it; I unfortunately mostly found it funny. A lot sure has changed for the better since then, though I'm too cynical to agree that it "could never happen" now, lol. People are still gross & dumb, even if larger culture gives a lot more backlash for that kinda grossness.

Oh it’s bad. Fearless was deleting my comments asking why this was being forgotten and Pierce The Veil blocked me on IG for questioning it.

I know their fan base has always skewed younger but surely the majority has grown up by now and is a little more aware? And less willing to let them get away with it?? Right???? (Wishful thinking I know)

I encourage you all to go vote against Brand New in this pop punk poll that Bull Moose Music posted. Also those comments...

I mean, Jesse Lacey sucks and it sucks people just...disregard what happened and still choose to stan them but I don't think posting a poll they are in and telling us to vote against them is a good use of this thread.

I used to have a lot of time for Vic - He was super nice when i met him, just seemed like a genuine class act - and I understand this is difficult for him given Mike is his brother, but jesus, this is the wrong way of handling it.

I feel like this thread is a decent place to ask this, why do people asterisk celebrity names like that? I've never understood the purpose, especially if you can still clearly tell what it's supposed to be like that

I know people do it on twitter so that fans don’t attack them just from searching their name

Oh yeah that makes sense, why on here though? And is Camila Cabello problematic or something?

I don’t know if this going to happen here but stans would go search through random forums for slander about their favorite artist and report back to the fan groups.

  20. I didn't know about the other reason, which just blew my mind as it makes perfect sense. I just did it to drag her B-)

And yes, she ran a tumblr / blog where she posted overtly racist stuff. She's been caught in December, and responded with a faux-apology.

And wow, had no idea about that, must have totally missed it. Her people obviously did a good job minimizing it unfortunately

Racism was targeted towards normani specifically as well and reading about her experience in the group and how Camila's silence impacted her is really sad:

"I want to be very clear about what I’m going to say on this uncomfortable subject and figured it would be best to write out my thoughts to avoid being misconstrued, as I have been in the past. I struggled with talking about this because I didn’t want it to be a part of my narrative, but I am a black woman, who is a part of an entire generation that has a similar story," Normani's email began.

She continued in her written statement: "I face senseless attacks daily, as does the rest of my community. This represents a day in the life for us. I have been tolerating discrimination far before I could even comprehend what exactly was happening. Direct and subliminal hatred has been geared towards me for many years solely because of the color of my skin. It would be dishonest if I said that this particular scenario didn’t hurt me. It was devastating that this came from a place that was supposed to be a safe haven and a sisterhood, because I knew that if the tables were turned I would defend each of them in a single heartbeat. It took days for her [Camila] to acknowledge what I was dealing with online and then years for her to take responsibility for the offensive tweets that recently resurfaced. Whether or not it was her intention, this made me feel like I was second to the relationship that she had with her fans."

But that wasn't the only 5H-based relationship Normani expressed as uneasy: The other members of the former girl group didn't readily come to her defense while she was dealing with racist online bullies either, as the 23-year-old artist described them as "not knowing how to be there for me the way that I needed it because it wasn’t their own experience, and because when they look at me they don’t see me."

According to the interview, Normani often felt like "the other one in the room" for being the sole black female in the group."
