I'm sure many of you have given up completely on Reddit. I mostly use it for pop culture and sports stuff.

But every time I go into the comments of a major news or politics sub I immediately regret it. They have completely degenerated into something horrifying. Basically imprints of /r/The_Donald. Full of racism, xenophobia. I literally just got down voted for suggesting it was innapropriate to joke about terrorist attacks that just happened.

I've never felt the appeal for Reddit; I hate the format itself of the website, how all the comments just cascade down, in seemingly random order

In related news, I also hate how all websites have kind of gone to that "random order" shit. Facebook and Instagram both don't show posts in chrono order anymore, and while you can switch facebook to "latest posts", i still haven't seen that available on instagram.

ESPN's fantasy baseball and football home pages have become unreadable. A story from 2 hours ago right next to one from 6 days ago. COme on, man.

I mainly stick to AMA and ask Reddit but even then it can get so racist and sexist

I mean, a republican shouted "you lie!" at a president giving the state of the Union. That can only happen in a context where a black man can be understood as president, but not presidential that involves the conferring of respect by those in government.

Why the hate for Chait? Neo-liberal?

I've generally enjoyed his writing. But I also get him mixed up with Cohn, who writes a lot more about health care and who I enjoy reading a lot more.

i can't stand it honestly. esp if you've gone a few days after not seeing anything. i want to see everything, not just select shit, and not in random order.

Chait and Ta Nehisi Coates had a back and forth, in which Chait was essentially telling Coates that a "culture of poverty" does exist in the black community and that it reinforces poverty, despite there also existing discrimination. Plus, he pretty much defends anything referred to as "liberalism" and consistently attacks the radical left for no other purpose than to basically say their desires are impossible, given the new societal coordinates we have. But, it was the Coates thing that made me initially dislike him.

honestly i only use reddit for certain video game subreddits that give advice, have new info, feedback etc. i never delve into anything about politics, religion, society on there for obvious reasons.

I go to Reddit for certain subreddits and when I can't find something here. But it's one of those sites I check maybe a few times a week mainly because there's only so much being posted in shit like r/minimalism or whatever.

Yeah, I have a very conservative friend from home who is usually very cordial, but nearly exploded when I said that Obama is not a "radical" leftist and that the disdain for Obama was incited by latent racism. He then replied with, "no, he's a socialist," to which I had to explain how I was miles left of Obama and even I am not a socialist.

Feel free to point him in the direction of that article.

I really do get a kick out of pointing out how the most famous/infamous of Obama's "socialist ideas" where Republican ideas prior to his getting elected. No one ever has a good response to that, the best one usually mustered is "Yeah but he took those ideas and made them a lot worse!"

When he is done running for president,he has to submit himself to the scientific community, because he has to have the smallest penis in the entirety of history.

Watched about 20 minutes of the Labour leadership election debate between Jeremy Corbyn and Owen Smith before the stream was disabled. Corbyn was speaking from the heart and being very authentic as he usually is; meanwhile Owen Smith was a non-stop slogan machine, with a cornucopia of pre-rehearsed lines and catchphrases. If I hear Smith say "we need to put our principles into practice" one more time, I'll be very mad.
