Current films or vintage horror? I'm not too up to date on current flicks coming out but older (90s-pre) films would interest me

Everything pre-90's we consider Retro Reviews...which we have none of so far...but it's an idea we've tossed around.

We've been covering Fantasia the past few weeks and it's taken a lot of time; plus the recent departure of two core members kind of threw me for a loop and it's made things a bit difficult to cover on my own.

    I've PM'd you.

  3. Shelley was ok. A good dose of atmosphere and some intriguing mystery, but I didn't take much from it and didn't feel like it left a lasting impact.

Awesome, dude! I'm about to start teaching at a new school in the upcoming weeks so I won't have too much free time, but I'll reach out when I have some breathing room and see if anything is still open!

Ya know, there isn't anything coming out that really interests me.

I'm watching PumpkinHead II in Spanish right now.

  10. Not even Blair Witch? I'm not excited about much else for the rest of the year, though I'm sure something I haven't heard of will pop up out of nowhere.

I mean, it's awesome that it's a "surprise sequel", but it doesn't look like anything that hasn't come out in the past 5 years or so. The "archetypal characters entering the woods and must deal with a ghost/monster/bigfoot" is so overdone and annoying now.

Plus, I have a strong feeling it will do something to fuck with the original mythology and ending especially. I don't know anything about it except that Heather's brother is one of the characters, I think, anyone know?

  12. I'm optimistic that Adam Wingard helped it transcend being generic, but I'll admit that the trailer didn't really indicate otherwise.

He and Simon Barrett have been working together for the last 3 films, including Blair Witch. While I really didn't like You're Next, I thought The Guest was amazing and something unique. So for me, it can literally go either way since that team is responsible for such polar opposites.

  14. Ah, gotcha. I really like both You're Next and The Guest ha, hence my optimism.

    The Perfect Husband
    Carnage Park

    The Neighbor
    Trash Fire

I forgot about Evolution and Trash Fire. I'm interested in those. Hadn't heard of The Unseen or We Are The Flesh, but they both sound interesting from what I just looked up.

edit: Under The Shadow and I Am Not A Serial Killer also look like they could be good.

    Has anyone seen Coherence?

I really enjoyed it. I think it will definitely benefit from repeat viewings.

  19. P2 was frustrating, but overall very enjoyable - much better than it;s 35% on RT would lead one to believe. It could have benefitted from less gore (not that there's much to begin with, but what is there distracts from the tension) and a better writing job to fix some obvious plot holes, but if you can look past those faults for a fun psychological thriller, I would recommend this one. Rachel Nichols is so great.

I did a while back. I remember really digging it, while my wife hated it, haha.

I have to do a rewatch with some friends as none of the group I typically watch with have seen it.

Kind of had that 'Primer' effect where it was very helpful to sit down and read a laid out timeline of events. I'll probably try and do a re-read of that right before watching it again.

Random note: after lurking for years in the horror thread on AP, I'm glad to finally be participating in this thread here at Chorus. You all are wonderful and this has been an extremely positive community. Cheers.
