I couldn't get into Gorguts when last I listened. First Fragment guy is definitely a contender, agreed. I'll give the rest a listen.

This is one of the guitarists of Full of Hell's primary(?) band. This is from their album coming soon on Relapse and it's some sweet goodness

 

Karl Sanders and Dallas Toler-Wade of Nile are tech guitar gods, as is Luc Lemay (Gorguts)

 

I'm listening to Nile rn and yeah this fucking rips

 

"Kafir", "Sacrifice Unto Sebek", and "Papyrus Containing the Spell to Preserve Its Possessor Against Attacks from He Who Is in the Water" (lol) are some of my favs. I went through a huge Nile phase a while ago.

That song is absolutely bonkers.

Not to be nitpicky, but their guitarist is also in Take Over and Destroy and Spirit Adrift. Both are rad. Take Over and Destroy were good when I saw them a few years ago here in Chicago. Spirit Adrift has a new album coming out in a few weeks on Prosthetic. Awesome doom metal in the vein of Pallbearer.

What did the people from Liturgy do? This is news to me and it sounds like delicious drama.

Also, did anybody else hear Black Crown Initiate's new release? I thought it was some seriously solid stuff.

 

Apart from making terrible music, Liturgy's frontman is a pretentious goof who tries too hard to appear scholarly or intellectual, namely in that he wrote a rambling manifesto full of obnoxious word-salad bullshit about black metal and his band's "mission" that make Billy Corgan liner notes read like Cat In the Hat.

Also he looks like Bill Hader from the Blue Jean Committee episode of Documentary Now. That doesn't really matter though I just think it's funny.

I listened to Demilich for the first time last night, sounds like Satan's asshole. In a good way.

 

they have made some really good music and bad. can't fault them too much because they've had odd ideas even if they don't pay off its respectable most of the time

 

This entire song has one of my favorite grooves in metal, and I love it so much.

Also, I concur, that Bolt Thrower album is great.

 

Hunter Hunt-Hendrix's manifesto is worth reading purely for entertainment purposes. But it really is a load of absolute garbage. I literally have no idea what he is talking about. I'm also sure that he has no idea what he's talking about either.

 

There's more where that came from. I just found the except the Liturgy guy wrote, but it's from an even larger collection of equally rambling word salad-ness written on black metal "theory". Or whatever it is they're doing.
