Same. She actively claims to be a socialist and also wants to destroy a lot of private property/kill rich people. I'm so proud.

My parents are very morally conservative Methodists who shunned my sister for several years after her coming out some 12 years ago. However, my dad has always been fairly left of center economically due to the fact that he is insanely well-read and understands economics.

Both of them voted for Bernie Sanders this cycle. I had never loved either one as much as that moment. But I've been continually grateful for, or at least cognizant of, the fact that my parents are more intelligent and respectable than those of most people.

My grandmother, however, is a Baptist and loves Trump.

My dad is an independent. he doesn't like either candidate but I know that he dislikes Trump more than Hillary. I almost got him to vote Bernie in the primaries but he stayed home.

My mom was registered republican since she voted Ron Paul in the last election, but recently changed to independent. She always complains to me about how Obama isn't doing anything about the gun problem which gets annoying since it's congress' fault. And she told me that all cops were bad. I was like "so there are no good ones?" And she said "well i'm sure there are a few". I tried hard to not to get angry lol

I don't discuss politics with my parents but I work with a lot of right-of-center people. It can get pretty frustrating when the partisan bullshit starts - Hillary's voice is so annoying, Benghazi, too many taxes - but they also all seem to share some unusual beliefs for Republicans. For instance, they all want an assault weapons ban, most of them are pro-choice, and a few are strong conservationists.

It's pretty funny to hear them all try and talk themselves into voting for Trump, and the more moderate ones have already given up and will vote for Johnson, or so they say

  7. Clinton now up an average of 5% in Pennsylvania, 5.2% in Michigan, 5.3% in Virginia, 5.6% in Wisconsin and 8% in Colorado.

    That would be the election.

my father and I largely share the same views, if anything, he's even more of a liberal than me. I am very proud to have him as my dad.

My mother's family are nazis. Literally. They think the jews are the cause for their plight and my uncle has a swastika as his phone background. I told them that as far as I'm concerned they're not part of the family and I stopped visiting them 10 years ago.

Said this a million times but when Hillary was making these horrible decisions trump was running celebrity apprentice. Do you think he is less hawkish simply because he couldn't vote for the wars? People need to stop using Hillary's pro war stance to make her out to be worse than trump. She's worse than anyone who voted against it, trump had no vote, you can't compare the two outside of hypotheticals. Sorry.

To be fair, Trump has repeatedly said that he wants to minimize overseas engagement, going as for to suggest that he will only protect other countries with American troops of they pay up (even NATO allies).
Literally the only silver lining of his candidacy.

I don't talk politics with them. My dad is a conservative Muslim which means he's insufferable like any deeply religious person. My mom just picks the candidate who seems nicer.

Minimize overseas engagements while nuking other countries at the same time. Makes sense.

If I could just forget it

I don't know how hawkish he is or isn't. It's impossible to tell because he constantly talks out of his ass. I do know for a fact that Hillary IS pro war. She has proven it time and time again. What else am I supposed to go off of?

Trump said in one debate he wanted to send 30,000 troops into the middle east to fight ISIS and he was gonna bomb the hell out of their oil fields. I don't believe he still wants that but he said it once so he certainly could go back to it when he is president. Based on what he has said, I do believe he is more hawkish than Hillary.

I mean, we are looking at a guy who asked 3 times why he couldn't just use nuclear weapons in a national security briefing.

So Chelsea Manning was put in indefinite solitary confinement after attempting suicide?

There are a lot of things that scare and depress me about the US, but the fact that we still use solitary confinement is at the top of the list. That's fucking horrifying.

We are watching the collapse of the Republican Party. Whatever ideological grounding they had has collapsed and this grab bag assortment of ideas Trump has infused into the party is totally unmoored from the material base that has propelled them forward for so long.

  22. All cops ARE bastards including &especially the military ones that have treated Chelsea Manning like a subhuman for years

  23. Yep. I found this piece interesting yesterday talking about what could come from it — could a conservative party emerge that isn't racist and tied to white nationalists basically.

A Republican intellectual explains why the Republican Party is going to die

This, Roy believes, is where the conservative intellectual class went astray. By refusing to admit the truth about their own party, they were powerless to stop the forces that led to Donald Trump’s rise. They told themselves, over and over again, that Goldwater’s victory was a triumph.

But in reality, it created the conditions under which Trump could thrive. Trump’s politics of aggrieved white nationalism — labeling black people criminals, Latinos rapists, and Muslims terrorists — succeeded because the party’s voting base was made up of the people who once opposed civil rights.
