My favorite feature on Criterion is the what’s leaving tab. They’re so much more open about it than most services and I often find that just working through that list is enough content to keep me busy through the whole month. It’s such a great service.

 

they also have good chunks of the filmographies of the world’s greatest filmmakers. I’m filling in a lot of my Godard gaps, and have worked through a lot of Kenji Mizoguchi and Fritz Lang the last couple weeks.

Yes I love their collections, like “hey we heard you like Kurosawa, so here’s almost literally all of his movies” lol. With other services it feels lucky if they three films by one person available at the same time

Yeah I love finding a new collection for a favorite that I didn’t realize was available. Same for finding all the movies I love but don’t own that have the full supplements from the physical release available.

 

Watched 2 more episodes of Tiger King. I don't know if it was overhyped for me or just my knowing the story/listening to the podcast skewed things but I'm just really not liking the tone of it. It's just too quiet and subtle I guess for the craziness of the story. Idk I feel weird

I'm 4 years late, but I just watched "Gringo: The Dangerous Life Of John McAfee" on Netflix, and HOLY FUCKING SHIT. This dude is a terrifying criminal who deserves life in prison, if not worse, and yet we're all just like "lol he's that antivirus guy, right?"
