Oh, i mean yeah. Me personally I'd only take him if he fell in our lap, cause then it's like how could you not.

How does one get more sacks than TFL then

  4. Randall Mentzos

    1) I have literally never seen this happen -since TFL became a stat, a sack behind the line has also counted as a TFL
    2) Tackling a QB at the LOS still counts as a sack so technically it IS possible cause that's not a TFL

This is an irrelevant statistic then if it doesnt record them as separate things.

Also, this makes Epenesa look worse

I mean, the stat records what it says it records haha, all tackles that go for loss. Are you saying that a sack shouldn't count as a basic "tackle" either? Cause sacks count as tackles too. A sack is technically also a tackle and a tackle for loss.

Not really. Tackles for loss against the run are really hard to get. You're much, much more likely to have a "good run stop" by tackling or stuffing them after 0-2 yards. There's usually not a wide gap between sacks and TFL for a DE.

cause think about it, the DL's main job vs the run is to hold up the blocker & keep gaps open for linebackers to run through. If a DL gets past his blocker too fast, he's overpursuing the play and opening a hole most the time. Run defense actually requires patience from the defensive line, as weird as that sounds.

TFL against the run are much easier for LB to get than DL, even though the DL is closer, just because of what their roles are. Vs the run DL hold up the line while LB get in the backfield, only in pass rushing situations do you want your DE's to get in the backfield as fast as possible. It's too easy to outflank your whole defense if they don't set the edge and maintain containment.

I mean yeah they account for two different things so there should be two different stats.

Here's why that logic doesn't work: Are you also arguing that an interception shouldn't be an incompletion, and shouldn't affect completion percentage?

INTs are also recorded as incompletions for the same reason. The stats mean different things yes... but it's correct to record both. All INTs are incompletions even if not all incompletions are INTs

Besides, it's not like it's that hard to subtract sacks from tackles for loss if you want to figure out how many of them were against the run.

  11. I saw an article on TDN that suggested Carolina trade back to collect an additional first for next year (with the goal of collecting ammunition for Lawrence). The article mentioned New England as a team to make a deal with.

    They'd send #24 + 3rd + 2021 first for #7 + 2021 fourth

Patriots take Jordan Love and wreck all you turds.

I did this trade back in a TDN mock and the results were nice.

If teams wanted to give us a next year first to trade down from 9, i would be ALL for that tbh. 9 is a bad spot for value for us. Let a team that needs a tackle or a WR more dearly than we do move up & give us picks.

If not for Trevor Lawrence, at worst it gives us the ammo we need to get JaMarr Chase so Minshew has an elite WR prospect to throw to. Granted we could just take Lamb this year, but I'd rather trade down, fix our defense into something serviceable, and then spend next year's early picks elevating the offense (plus getting extras in the trade).

  13. The world needs Trevor Lawrence + Joe Brady

It is. You record it on both stats because both stats apply.

A tackle for loss is a tackle for loss. That’s how many times that player forced the other team into a worse down/distance situation. The effect on the game is the same regardless if it’s a sack or a run defense tackle for loss. If it lost two yards, it led to 2nd and 12 either way. A sack is a tackle that caused a loss haha

An interception is a defensive stat. An incompletion is an offensive stat. They're two different things.

Your logic is that stats shouldn’t be counted in two separate categories at the same time. I gave you another example of where football statistics do that. It’s not meaningless they still say different things.

The INT number specifies that “this many” incompletions were actually turnovers. The sack number specifies that “this many” tackles for loss stopped the QB from throwing. Same concept. It makes sense to me.

Okay well the second half of my post that you didn’t quote explains my logic so let’s just drop it haha. We’re not understanding each other.

When you hit a mothafucka, you hit that mothafucka Prestigious

Alright fine I’ll give you another example ON DEFENSE (which actually doesn’t matter, at all, to what I’m saying. But because you insist.)

Interceptions are also counted as pass deflections. An interception is still one of the times you disrupted a pass. So it counts as both.

  25. Randall Mentzos

When you hit a mothafucka, you hit that mothafucka Prestigious

I think they used to say deflections and changed it to defensed for that reason.

But a sack IS a tackle for loss, so that logic doesn’t make sense! Its not misleading at all.
