Revisiting M/m rn and I think this is my favorite Thrice record in terms of how they sound. I love the tones and a lot of the songs will have that signature Thrice grit to it but have a hint of the Beggars gloominess (Blur's second verse). While it's not my favorite album from them, it still rips. I think it's my 4th or 5th favorite from them, with TBEITBN being my favorite and Beggars/Vheissu not too far behind.

Whistleblower went from a very mediocre song to me to one of my favorite Thrice songs. It slaps so hard

I wonder if Dustin ever finished those songs with his brother.

I had been thinking about this too. Especially since I saw his brother was a crew member on this last tour, and is like a spitting image of young Dustin haha

This is a really great piece. Never really thought about the lyrical themes from this album (other than the overt biblical themes) and I’m excited to give another listen with new ears

thank you! One of my favorite things to do with albums is to find the lyrical through line. Thrice is great for it.

I've personally never been as much of a Vheissu fan as many in these forums are, even when I briefly considered Thrice my favorite band, but it's still really cool to read about the impact it's had on other people.

This was a really nice read and hope you're doing well now Garrett! I thought I'd share my experience with Vheissu...

I have a similar experience to you with the BN element of your piece and how the BN music was a crutch for me throughout many struggles in my life. They were so integral to the fact I liked so many other bands that came off of them that it was hard to not feel their influence.

Despite their close links, I found Thrice on my own but I would say Vheissu is a landmark album for me for opening my mind up in to so many other genres (started exploring Radiohead etc after hearing this). I've always felt that the power in the album was Dustin's lyrics. The music is outstanding but because I'm not very good at talking music technical stuff, I always find myself drawn to discussing the themes.

I grew up catholic and Dustin's biblical themes specifically on this (and throughout his/Thrice's career) has always been a curious one for me to unpack (Music Box has a lot that I unpack to this day). Since exploring this album through the years, I think that the main power is your own worth. It's the constant theme throughout the album that your own worth isn't defined by your make-up (Image of Invisible), by scars (For Miles), by realities (Between The End... / The Earth Will Shake).

By the time you get to 'Red Sky', I always feel as if I've been on a journey that it feels like Red Sky is where you are. I've always visualised the album at night. Helped in part by Earth Will Shake's painted imagery but Red Sky comes along and it breaks and you do have that hope of a new day.

It's wonderful. This album holds up as their best, for me, and one of the best ever.
