There's a facebook video floating around talking about the historical directions of the two parties post-Civil War and how the Republicans 2012 loss to Obama was the catalyst in making Trump truly electable. It's actually pretty informative for a 3:00 video, even though I think it pays too much credit to Republican voters re: their concern with actual policy and underplays the fact that, as a group, they're just fucking stupid.

i despise the young turks because of how they handle themselves, the back and forth about the denial of genocide, even their name is arguably offensive. so i don't watch them. but as a result of following kyle kulinski on twitter, i saw him tweet this video and decided to watch it:

What do you think about this?

Many of the former Sanders supporters have opted out of the Democratic Party, preferring other electoral campaigns or activism as a result of the Wikileaks emails. A large contingent has chosen the inside/outside strategy in terms of reforming the democrats from within. There isn't much in the way of people who can be won to a republican platform, if they're simply offering up free-market rhetoric and bigoted policies.

I think students should have a say in determining who speaks on their campus. There is room for ideological debates, but, given what passes for conservatism these days, it is almost inseparable from reactionary views. To be clear, I think this is less about restricting conservatives from speaking as it is a terrain on which students are fighting to define the acceptable parameters of discourse across political apectrum. Sometimes they can go too far, but they're students and that is bound to happen and they will learn from those mistakes.

I agree. My alma mater blocked Ben Shapiro last year, who, despite being an absolute scumbag, is one of the more worthwhile conservative speakers out there by virtue of his intelligence.

What is offensive about TYT? I'm not disagreeing, but aren't the two founders first generation immigrants from Turkey and Armenia?

He denied it previously. There is a sense in which his chauvinism precludes him from acknowledging it in its full horror and the ignorance is a middle ground he has chosen as a way to sidestep the issue; ignorance isn't really an excuse in any case, given the wealth of knowledge at one's fingertips these days.

Young Turks was the political group that brought about the Armenian genocide. Given he also denies the Armenian genocide happened, it's, uh... Messy, to say the least. Criticism is warranted.

Someone finally admits that "Bernie Bros" don't exist. I've seen the term all over this forum, and all over the internet, and I am frankly sick to death of it. I'm not out calling Clinton supporters derogatory names, yet it seems more than acceptable to put down the Bernie supporters. It's bullshit.

No it's not. You might not like the term but they're basically the same as the bernie or bust crowd, they exist and some of them are very ignorant.

they do not exist in numbers large enough to support romney or paul ryan for some inexplicable reason and give republicans a base that doesn't include social conservatives. "bernie bros dont exist" is necessary because of how often they are pointed to as a flashpoint of friction for clinton, when as we have seen in repeated polls, the "bernie or bust"//"bernie bros" don't exist in statistically significant numbers. when 90% of bernie supporters say they'd support hillary, the argument about there being a huge massive issue of bernie supporters being intractable morons kind of falls apart. they might not be happy theyre voting for a neoliberal warhawk who supports an apartheid state but the polls just do not support the kind of anti-bernie bro sentiment that has been volleyed about for months now.

But by all means, continue name calling / marginalizing groups of people based on your stereotyping. The Donald would be proud of you.

If you had shown me that video and asked me to play "Trump or really good Trump impressionist" I would've probably gone with really good Trump impressionist.

It was intended to refer to white men that supported Bernie because he was a man and also engaged in those tactics. There was never anything to substantiate this category of supporter, aside from the instances in which there were very obviously sexists that also supported Bernie. But, it became a broader catch all term to undermine the Sanders' campaign.
