What exactly do you think was the utility of picking Kaine?

The (real) denial from (faux) progressives in regard to Kaine is pretty humorous.

That's just wild considering there are more registered republicans than democrats and independents combined.

Hillary is weakest with white males, and he's from Virginia. White male from a state she needs to win. That also happens to speak fluent Spanish. But I suppose to humor you we can pretend she did it because she's secretly planning to turn pro-life after she's elected?

I think he was the most boring and worst pick out of the supposed "short list". But pretending that Hillary picking him suddenly means she's going to roll back abortion rights is just plain ignoring the realities of the role of VP. She dictates to him what policies they'll be supporting, not the other way around.

There are a thousand things wrong with Hillary. Let's not make up some new ones for fun.

Isn't that the only state Cruz won by over 50%? It would make sense that they despise Trump at least.

You gotta fold it and let all that grease drip in between your fingers, then when you get to the crust you pull it apart a little bit like a hot dog bun and scoop up the remaining toppings on your plate.

    I thought this was America!

I am more concerned about what Kaine's support of Right-to-Work and deregulation say about a Clinton presidency than i am over his support of the Hyde amendment.

Yep. By far the worst thing about his pick his he's now in line for the 2024 nomination if she wins and goes both terms.

He might be in line, but if history is any indication, VPs don't have a stellar track record of getting elected president. I believe Van Buren and HW Bush are the only two.

there has also been a substantial shift in recent decades about who we consider qualified for running, i think a vp today has a much better chance of winning than they did in the past

It honestly depends on the character of Hillary's presidency. If it is the sort of down the middle, centrist consensus that has dominated the party - and yes, I understand it is the most progressive platform, but that doesn't mean anything - then a second term isn't in the cards for her. Politics are polarized for a reason and whoever doesn't take the opportunity will effectively be ceding ground in 2020 to a person that understands what sort of political conjuncture we are in.

i imagine 2020 and beyone will also produce another candidate in trump's mold unless serious policy action is taken to address the root causes of his rise. i dont think that will happen, so i assume we will be having an argument about neoliberalism vs fascism every four years for some time.

I agree, and said this a few times in here. I think the odds are, regardless of whether it's Trump or Clinton, that they are a one term President. Clinton will not get the turnout she needs in 2020 if she abandon's the platform altogether.

I disagree, I think you are going to see a lot of the GOP party leadership get ousted after the Trump loss, followed by a kind of remaking of the party. They are going to have to make a decision as to what do with their more socially conservative wing, whether to abandon them for a more libertarian platform that favors modern societal sensibilities, or double down on a dying ideology.

Either way, rules will be put in place to prevent people like Trump. Which isn't to say there will not be wacko 3rd party runs, but I think the establishment on both sides are taking lessons away from Sanders and Trump. For better or worse.
