I'm fairly certain this is because he doesn't want to invoke the article 50 agreement. I think he'll let someone else take over as PM, deal with the mess in the short term and then he'll run again next time round. I think he was expecting if the leave campaign won that Cameron would've dealt with it and then when he announced he was retiring that it messed his plan up.

Brexit: a disaster decades in the making | Gary Younge

Martin’s already lost almost everything – he voted leave to spread the pain | Frances Ryan

These are two very eye-opening pieces IMO. First one is VERY long so please be warned, but it really shows how the painting of people who vote leave as being racist is just a lazy thing to do. They are victims of their circumstances, and their anger at that is easily whipped up into an anti-immigration fervor by skilled politicians who, no matter what side they are on, are never on our side. I would urge everyone ITT to read these if they have the time.

Can we not just put an end to this mess now and say it's not happening?

His career is ruined. I don't think he can run again.

He's backtracked which has pissed off the leavers.

And the remain camp hate his guys for running a campaign that has divided a country. Separated 2 unions amid reports it was all just a swing at being PM

Good riddance. Now if we could just get rid of the rest of the Tories and Blairites that are plaguing our government. Reducing it to Punch and Judy politics we'd be in a better position to limit the effects of our downfall from downright embarrassing to slightly humbling b

I think it'll get to the point where we just accept a Norway deal.

We're already in crisis as a country. I'm sure the government can deal with a bit of unrest from the ukips. As for the old people. They'll be gone soon enough (as harsh as it sounds- it's clear they still harboured anti German sentiment and I don't think it's right for them to have such a say in a big decision they won't even be around to feel the effects of)

I know the media narrative was that "Labour did nothing" but I just don't buy it. Labour MPs only said that Corbyn didn't do enough in a pre-emptive attempt to smear him before the leadership election. Within two weeks of praising Corbyn for "pursuing an itinerary that would make a 25-year-old tired" during the remain campaign, Angela Eagle (one of the MPs who stood in the leadership election against him but has now dropped out) was slamming him for making the case for Remain "with half hearted ambivalence". The reality is that 63% of Labour voters voted to remain, compared to only 42% of Conservative voters. I haven't seen anyone attack David Cameron for running a lazy campaign. When you combine this with a recent study that revealed 75% of the press misrepresents Jeremy Corbyn's views, what was he supposed to do? For what it's worth, I actually think Corbyn's argument for remain was the most compelling I heard. The media just didn't report on it. So considering the circumstances, it wasn't a bad result for Labour.

Edit: I misread your post, lol. Although, to be honest, I don't see how their could have been a left wing argument for leaving the EU at this point in time. We've now got the most right wing government in decades and it's all because we chose to leave the EU, as some left wing commentators predicted would happen before the vote took place.

  12. Well, the biggest argument against a left wing movement for leave was that there was a right wing movement poised to gain from it....which could've been negated to some extent by a left wing movement for it. I don't blame him for not going leave, but at the time I made that post I was thinking if he's not going to do that his remain campaign should've been stronger than it was. Turns out it was pretty damn strong and it wasn't as much his fault. Makes sense

If anyone should be criticised for doing nothing in the run up to the referendum it should be Teresa May. She was apparently part of the remain team.

There's an article in the telegraph claiming we're going to spend £11bn in foreign aid on EU countries in order to secure trade deals. So basically we're going to try and bribe countries in to a deal that's not in their long term interest.

There was an amazing bit on Look East this morning.

Apparently, farmers in East Anglia are seeking talks about Brexit, because they're worried about losing their foreign trade, their migrant workers and their EU subsidies.

Even though I think Miliband was the best option at the last election, I feel like this hits the nail on the head in regards to his leadership:

I genuinely think he has some really good ideas that go unnoticed. It's a shame that when he got his shot he started pandering to the Blairites (for lack of a better word). Sadly you do need to also be able to play the politics game. Right or wrong, that's something Corbyn must start managing carefully if he wants a shot.

What worries me is that Owen Smith says all the right things but it won't change the fact he was a lobbyist for Pfizer that wanted to privatise the NHS
